Should I Be in Fast Group?

Hi People
Having spent many years being mid pack in Inters today I was zooming through the field at Pembrey Vid below

Not sure if it was a slow day or not but based on this I think I should be booking fast group from now on. What do you great SWB people think?

Depends on the day and if there is a race meeting shorty after.
Every day is different but the fast group is usually the safest if you are riding at a consistant pace. Pembrey and Llandow I'm happy in fast group as was the last euro but still unsure about the bigger UK tracks but will happily ride them if others are there also.
I'm by all means no racer and there is much much faster than me, but they are able to ride around safely where a mixed ability novice or inters may be asking for trouble.

After watching the video that is a very mixed ability inters group and probably would have been happier riding fast. Some more "novice" riders in there.

Thanks Ian... Helpful think you might be right. Big tracks, (Cadwell, Oulton, Silverstone, Donnington) probably best to stay in inters however for the Pembreys of the world probably better to move up to fast and give it a go to help build confidence and try and keep moving me forward.

let me know next time your going mate, like you I ride upper inters but I am wary of taking the plunge into fast, be nice to be with someone in the same boat, I did bump up with another r6 rider for a couple of sessions on the Friday but I think that was a pretty slow fast group if im honest

The fast lads at Pembrey will be around 1.05-1min laps

Book inters see what the day is like ask Alan to bump up if space and not a crazy day....which group has most reds yesterday?
You’ll only get Matt there once a year if more than 1 bike out, reckon he’d want 3-4 out to make the trip tbh.

We were doing 1min08 on the new track so equates to about a 1min03, how back was the red fest yesterday?

Ok so this answers the question looking at the vid footage seems I am doing around 1:12 ish laps so more work to be done before I am getting to fast group speeds.
And fast group had a few red flags through the day but worst one was a crash with 2 bikes which stopped the day for an hour whilst they were both taken to hospital.

Thanks for the offer that would be good. It’s going to be 2019 now as have run out of track day funds for 2018. But would great.

Some video footage from gee and myself followed by a racer. The end will show you the difference,

From following for a few laps, then on that day YES fast group would of been the place for you and me. Your lines, corner speed were excellent.
As Ian has said it all depends on the day, and Saturday you probably would of benefited from being in the fast group.

As u can run a consistent line & pace I think u would be fine in the fast group & start to lap quicker anyway as u would be in less traffic & the pace faster. Saturday was my first venture into the fast group & whilst there was a few really quick lads it was actually ok. No I probably wouldn't do the same at Oulton park or Donnington but at Pembrey it felt right.
