Hi all.
Just thinking about getting my clearances check.honda say 16.000.but for peace of mind thinking bout getting them done b4 spring arrives.bikes done 12.000 and got full honda service history.
Is it worth the money to get it done.or wait till honda recommends.no issues with bike etc.

Cheers

Andy

Routine maintenance is about trying to prevent brake downs. If you feel it would be beneficial then do it (especially if you will do 4k miles this year as could be down time off the road)

As a road bike shouldn't be out but never know how it HAS been ridden.

If it was me and how often I ride in the summer months and wanted hassle free riding I would probably have them checked.

I have mine on my zx10r done every year, in fact they will be done over the next few weeks ready for the new track season

If they will do it, ask the shop to record what each clearance is rather than just giving each a pass/fail. That way you can compare in the future to see if any are moving, and if so by how much.

Same engine they used in the Hornet for years.....I haven't known anyone have an issue with valve clearances ever on a Hornet! But that said, if its peace of mind to do it....?

Better still, measure them yourself, record the clearances, pop the cams out (which you'd have to do anyway if any needed adjusting), measure the shims with a micrometer (the etched-on sizes could well be illegible by now) and record them in a table so that in the future, if a clearance needs adjusting you'll know the shim size already in there so you can order the next smaller one (clearances always reduce), or swap if another valve that needs adjusting already has the size that you require. It's quite straightforward, simple mechanic work, not rocket science. If unsure, ask for assistance from someone who's done it before (successfully!) - saves paying someone else to do a job for you... :-bd

1997----------purchased bike-------------------------------00000 miles
2007----------reset valve clearance------------------------17600 miles hardly worth doing.
2018----------check valve clearance-----------------------37900 miles "did not adjust any"
Service History of my fun machine.

These motor bikes are far better than we think, and we tend to worry too much. (just keep changing the oil)
We are the problem not the bike.
