Go and try one. I had the Ducati 750SS injection then treated myself to the 749S, a fantastic bike, was well pleased with it and had great fun on it for 18 month. Was just looking around to see what was on the market and the new R6 took my eye. Dealer made me on offer that was hard to refuse.
A vast change to the Duk, 115bhp but once you are riding this increases to over 130bhp with the ram air. Revs to 16,000 but yes you have to use the gears more. Much easier than the 749 to ride in town and once on the open road it fly's. When you reach 10,000 revs which comes very fast you have to hang on as it just takes off. 0 to 60 3.5secs 0 to 100 6.8secs top speed 158mph, it seems faster than the 749S.
Handling is just fantastic, with the 749S I found I had to work hard to ride it fast, with the R6 its so easy which make you far more confident. I find that the brakes lack the feel the 749 had but they work well and stopping distance is about the same. Slipper Clutch is standard and it has a chip controlled throttle which is very smooth and responsive. Riding position for me is better and more comfortable, no longer got a hot bum or aching wrists.
Have had the bike 6 month and done just over 3000 miles and I am well pleased.
They say a change is as good as a rest
Ducati 749S now got the latest R6
