What would you do, Where would you go, Breakers or New

Post by speedy(delboy) »

I am just running a little survey to see what the 2 different percentages are from you guys.

Scenario

Your riding your machine along in town and a pedestrian walks out in front of you and you have to break hard, on doing so, you drop your bike and crack all the fairings down the right side, buckle your brake lever, and put a hole in your casing>>

Where would you go to replace these parts

Breaker or New

Cheers

Phil

PS: This is a serious thread as its part of my Business Plan for South West Bike Breakers - cheers

Ok, maybe the wrong scenario, the accident was totally your fault, and you have to foot the bill

I'd go for both. Engine parts etc from a breaker, depending on how rare they were (I'm thinking VFR 400 parts here, which are like hens teeth). Bodywork I'd get new or eBay, as I'd think breakers wouldn't have them in the colours I'd need and can't be arsed to paint etc.

Then I'd find the pedestrian that walked out in front of me and kick their ass.

Definatly breakers.

Even if the colours didn't match, its proably cheaper to get a respray.

Given your scenario, it depends on parts cost - value up to £20 -25 probably new, over that local breakers if they have it, if not e-bay or other web-forum.

Note also the difference between new OE and new pattern - I rarely go to Bridge for franchised parts, but use CMS and get the best value between the two ..... but still new parts

most breakers with sense, would stock new pattern where it represents a value saving over new OE, and covers a gap they can't supply with used parts. I'd suggest you start investigating trade accounts with suppliers like Fowlers, RobH, phoenix, Tran-Am, etc.,
Of all the things I have ever lost, I miss my mind the most .....

Handle stressful situations like a dog - If you can't eat it or play with it, pee on it and walk away

Well I need a new engine so this is my debate at the moment! I have 2 weeks free in august when i could drop in a new engine..but then pay to have everything set up which is more expense (im guessing in all about a grand) or whether to save up and get a new bike...I guess if i can get an engine cheap enough, i'll have it.
