Right, can anyone explain to me as to what Facebook is?? Everyone is going on about it but when I say "What is it?" They reply "... I've got loads of friends on it".

Is it for people with no friends? In which case, its perfect for me

Seriously, is anyone here a user of the thing they call 'facebook' and if so, would someone care to explain to me, and possibly anyone else, what it is for? The website doesn't make any sense

I saw something on the news a while back and they said it was absorbing people's lives etc. I want a piece of that

I'm expecting to log on and get injected into my mouse hand with heroin or something.

It's pretty much like MySpace but it's sorted into 'Networks' our closest one is Plymonth, so anyone in the area can join it and have access to other peoples profiles. You can also make your own Network for friends, work etc

It's not easy to use but gets easier.

Facebook is a social networking website, originaly started by universitys in the US but has spread worldwide, and more recently become accessible by anyone with an email address.

Its become such a large part of my (and pretty much all of my friends lives) now. The highlights being the messaging service and the ability to share and link all of your digital photos with all your friends.

More recently it has been updated. You can add third-party "applications" to your 'profile page' e.g. the ability to upload videos, sound clips, play web based games etc.

As for the "meeting new people" part, I know a lot of my female friends search through their friends lists for 'hotties'...

It's not a bad little thing, you only know the people you actually know which is good as it stops everyone just 'adding' you which i found annoying on myspace. I don't know what my facebook url is.

i am a member have been for about a week added photos and all that was not that hard really. Its also pretty easy to get your friends involved as well, dunno what i did but when i joined it basically emailed everyone from my yahoo email account address book. It invites them to join or if they are already members then contacts them asking if they want to be on your friends list.

Have seen loads of pics of old school mates who i have not seen for about 17 years and been chatting to them, commenting on pics etc

well i sihned up last week and have found age and cv piper on there already.if theres enough interest we could set up a southwestbikers group on there so we can all see each others profiles and photos etc. only problem is people will see your real name not your user name so dont go on there if your in hiding lol if you want to add me my names david avery. lets get this thing rolling

all done, the group is on facebook under http://www.southwestbikers.com and is available globally so no excuse for you all to not sign up.

how about a seperate sticky for this? would be good to see what people look like in real life so we have less chance of walking past each other at bike meets etc
