"Clicking" from front wheel

Hi Guys,

I've started to notice an irregular clicking at low speeds on the front wheel of my Thundercat
It has now worsened to the point the I can feel the "click" through the bars

I've had the wheel off and re-greased everything but still can't find the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions of things to try/look for??[/b]

Warped disc? Loose pad? They tend to rattle around a bit if worn, but if its a rythmic click it could potentially be a warped disc.

If it starts pulsing then its definitely the disc!

Anyone else got any ideas?

It's a very defined and erratic "Click".

Brakes are fairly recent. (1500miles)

have you checked that your kids havent put a clicker on your wheels the ones for pushbikes you get free with frosties.

on a more serious note get it checked as any problems with the front wheel could cause a accident do you have access to a bike stand so you can free wheel the front wheel,

but please get it checked as there have been 3 motorcycle deaths this week within 10 miles of me and i dont want to hear of another.

It's booked in this weekend for a check-up (pre-MOT) at local dealership so will probably get diagnosed then.

On another note - Anyone following Croddman's progress will be happy to know he passed his full test yesterday!

I don't think it is the bearings - There's no "Roughness" in the wheels motion, no unusual shaking under breaking - It's quite, quite weird

Gotta get it fixed ASAP as me and me Buddy's are heading down to Cornwall end of the month!

Could it be a worn speedo cable? Would that cause it?

I'm a little nieve to these things - Still learning about the "mechanics" side of bikes

can you get the front wheel ellevated and check for play in the front wheel?

Unfortunataly not mate - I have a paddock stand for the rear but thats it.

can't you pin it down to when its happening,
is it when you use your brakes/accelerate,
hit potholes,
does it happen only when your riding or does it happen when your pushing the bike,
does it happen when you put in some steering input,

there must be some sort of pattern to it and once you have worked out when it to clicks then its easier to diagnose, untill then the only thing that anyone can suggest is the usual suspects in general terms,


wheel/head bearings,
brakes
suspension
bodywork
speedo cable

If you get someone to help you you can lift the front wheel off the ground so that your mate is holding it on its side stand and rear wheel. Once on the balance point it should be fine to stay there as long as you need, allowing you to spin up the front wheel.

One thing that did occur is that it could be a screw or something in your tyre that's clicking as it hits the ground. Otherwise what others have mentioned

Try applying the front brake and pushing the bike back and forth you may find the brake pads clicking like that
or take them out and coat the backs with a thin layer of copper grease and see if that stops it, are there some shims left out when replacing the pads ? or for that matter does it stop when you put the front brake on

sounds like will be the speedo mechanism in the front spindle, as the thundercats have the speedo cable off the front wheel. i thinks its where it gets really dry and weathered. if you cant take it out, just try and spray the badger up with some wd and grease her up
