ha, ha,ha, you should have gone to Specsavers as your eyesight doesn't appear to be that good or as it seems your memory, as it appears you can't remember your own posts or that there hasn't been a Dave posting on this thread.

Oh damn you didnt bite the second time when i got your name wrong and instead of attacking me why dont you come up with some answers to the questions raised or cant you because the word advanced is stretched a bit and the fact is you wont actually learn to ride a bike with them all you will learn is to read signs and follow rules you still dont seem to have come back with a sensible response to that apart from attaking me !Still as you say i have had my point about them being arrogant and un friendly as you two have well demonstrated keep up the good work i can see the membership swelling as i speek

OK Blade, I have been following this with 'mild' interest, as I passed my advanced test back in Feb. Further more I am not 'attacking you' over this

Can you back that up?? Have you ridden with an observer??
I can say with certainty that my observer, helped me improve my riding on the roads, and it is not all about 'just reading signs and following rules'
A lot of the advanced riding is to do with observation, that is the bottom line, and one way of looking at it.
OK IAM and advanced riding is not for everyone, but it worked out for me, improved my confidence and skills level, after not having a bike for 17 years and returning to it last year.
All I can suggest is why not team up with an observer for a couple of hours, just to see what is involved, I'm sure something could be arranged.
As I stated earlier, it worked for me, but is not everyone's cup of tea. Likewise I have no interest in trackdays.

Thanks jgc for a civil response and yes as i answered the original question i passed my test 6 years ago and was recommended to go on to do observer course but my comment was to the guy who asked that i dont bother going on the rideouts because they are painfully slow and even my observer of the time was getting fed up with them so about 5 of us would meet up and go for a blast in wales ! So i still stand by my original comment if you want to ride by rules and speed signs carry on but if you want to learn to ride a motorcycle take up moto-x,road racing or do track days and you will probably find the people are very friendly as well.

No worries Blade, as I said track days just holds no appeal to me at all.
As for the rideout with the advanced group being slow, well the first one I went on was anything but slow!!!! To be honest it nearly put me off as I was not used to group rides/drop off system.
We all have our own ideas as to what we feel is right for us. That is one of the joys of bike riding I suppose, there is such a variety of bikes on offer these days, to suit the different riders. For me it is the touring/commuting bike (Deauville NT700VA7) which ticks all my boxes for the moment

I am not an Advanced Motorcyclist, i have however done the 3 week police motorcycle course and found that my riding became so much smoother identlfying hazards alot sooner and getting my road position set for the hazard.(apart from 1 mishap Age shut it!!!). Last year i did Llandow with SWB and that was my 1st trackday, i thoroughly enjoyed it and again i also found that helped me out with my road riding, it gave me alot more confidence in my tyres and brakes, something i did not really need as such on the police course because we were (by the 3rd week) always using the 'system'

I also found the motorcycle course set me up nicely for the advanced driving course as the same principle applies to both. I did favour the bike course more though

The IAM course would help people with their road riding, i have no doubt about it. Just because it may seem a little slow at the time when you are being taught the 'system' if you take onboard what you are being taught then you can adapt the 'system' to your riding style (whether it be slow medium or fast and i am only medium).
If you dont fancy an IAM course then 'Bikesafe' is also really good.

When is it mate i have never been there . Been to pembrey excellent track went there last month got totally blown away was in intermediate group myself and brother in law were the only ones on road tyres i think it was practice day for club racers there was even hawk kawasaki there practicing but was brilliant and learnt some good lines even though i only followed them for 2 corners if i was lucky then i would have to wait for them to lap me to try and learn some more couldnt sleep when got home was buzzing so much !

the iam region 1 hire llandow...now I know they are generally on unsuitable bikes but what the hell was the point of this lot being on any track. Seriously the vid is like a master class in hopeless riding, everything about it is wrong, I guess they are going so slow it doesnt matter what line they take but jesus it really is a miracle that gravity doesnt get the better of them...

its a good vid for looking at the track though (as long as you ignore the bikes wobbling all over the place) as the whole thing is filmed at 15mph. Its so bad its almost hypnotic.

Not that it matters how fast anyone goes around a track as its just a fun day out. but I think there is just something about the IAM that just asks for ridicule.
