Slight thread hi-jack but this is aimed at thelastsuperpower. How are you finding the Maxxis tyres.?

I had some fitted to my 2007 R6 (because they were alot cheaper than other brands) and, to be honest I'm not overly impressed with them. Grip levels are fine and they've done nothing to unsettle me but they just seem very slow to turn in. Also getting strange wear on the front -15-20 mm chicken strips on the front compared to 5mm on the back!!

I'm thinking of going down the part worn track tyres.

in my experience you'll always find a uneven amount of chicken strips from front to rear tyres if used on the road. got to admit that i doubt i'll ever fit maxxis to a top sportsbike, where are you using your r6 matt,on the road or on the track ?
matt if funds are tight buy a decent set of part worns, its the cheapest way to go.

I believe both tyres were/are 180/55 zr17's,but obviously the old one had at least 4mm less tread height around the middle. My guess was a more sporty profile on the supermaxx, which is nice to know ive got more tyre if i need it.

So far ive done about 5-600 miles (mostly hard  ) on the supermaxx and they feel great.Nice grip in all weathers, warm up quick and feel stuck to the tarmac when cornering.
I cant really comment much on turn-in as my bikes suspension condition and setup is obscenely poor, which makes it run wide anyway! :?
Ive heard the old supermaxx werent really that amazing tbh,but ive heard nothing but praise for the new style ones which i have fitted.
Bikeless again :/

I fitted them because they were cheap and the dealer wanted some feedback as they were new to him. As I said, grip levels have been fine, I just wished they would steer a bit quicker! (and bike is solely road use, in the dry. Med/ fast pace)

I'll try and source some decent part worn ex race tyres. (think I read on here Steve Leach can get them)

Good work moose I don't know the new compounds I have on my rack are all old ones ! 758 902 and a three lap 555 !

Dont use soap to fit them use coke ! full fat is best as it's slippery when wet !!!! and sticks like hell when dry.

Haven't booked anything yet but need to get something done soon ! Tell me when your doing your next one and I will get on it. As long as it's not Cadwell because it should be illegal to drive that far for a few hours on track !

The Dunlop 4 digit codes are for the duel/tri compound tyres. Also 758 is the same as a 587 - same compound but is slighlty different as it came out of a different machine, hence same digits in different order.

What surprised me is the low pressures now used, as these are now taken hot. Age is the tyre monkey at the moment so can elaborate.

Have splashed out this year - got a particularly scrubbed pair of racetec for £50 to try. :o

Moose - the reason for my head being so close to the ground is evolution.
My body is adapting to mass centralisation. :P

Deej/dummo - Just cancelled going to Albacete so have booked Olton (open pit lane) on 7th with SP. 8)

Blimey – nice to meet you in Quebolt the other day. Next time your in ask Dave to show you the video from Donington last year when Ian was quickly becoming a fleck.

Front Pressures are still around 2.0 bar (29 psi) but rears are a different story.

The rear may vairy, the lowest we run is 1.2 bar (18psi?) higest is 1.4 bar(21psi) these readings are taken as hot 75 degrees tyre warmer temp for min 2 hours. we then alter pressures depending on tyre temp when the bike comes in off track.

The Temp is the important factor these days so pressure is adjusted to keep tyre temp at the correct level.

With these low temps the tyre can spin on the rim causing the tyre to go out of balence,so to stop this special non slip paint (B&Q non slip[ floor paint  ) is used. Dunlop have also worked hard over the winter on making the tyre wall harder which means you can no longer fit tyre by hand !

That is seriously low pressure. I stil get people questioning me when i say 29 font and rear on track days and it seems alien putting 42 psi in the blackbird.

No can do next monday as am on stag trip to butlins minehead with 51 other rugby players From Friday night for two nights. Monday will not be a pretty day. Need to do Brands again as I was slower than Kai when I went there last !

(Kai wasn't there but it felt that slow )
