Speed Guns..

Post by Jaye »

Hi all, I went for a short ride over to Dawlish Warren today and as I was coming out of Topsham on the long straight towards Countess Wear I passed two coppers on the end of the grassed area with a speed gun. Luckily I had let a car pull out from a side street, as it was half way across my lane anyway and I did think about overtaking it but decided against it which, it turns out was also lucky as I think I may have been caught out! You can't help but take advantage of a long straight with very little traffic about.... !Has anybody else seen any about? Jaye

I don't see a problem with dark visors, its no different to wearing sunglasses, and they don't obstruct your vision like glasses do.
I got stopped on the way to college for a spot check.
And iv seem about 4 police cars in the past 2 days on my way to work.

I think I saw something in the news this week about D & C Police having a purge on crime at the moment, the aim apparantly is to reasure people that the Police are pro-active on crime in order to improve the relationship between the public and Police.

Funny though, crime purges these days seem to inevitably translate into a purge on the motorist. I suppose its natural to follow the path of the easy target and greatest potential revenue. Criminals = expenditure and effort whereas motorists = revenue + targets + statistics = happy political masters. No brainer for the ambitious Chief Constable.

In the words of the imortal J. Cleese, "Your f.....g nicked my son" :!: :P

Maybe I'm just getting cynical in my dotage. :?

Roryb - I expect you saw my little display with the car driver as I was waiting to go under the bridge, I couldn't believe that the guy waited until I was about to go under to come through, I was not happy!

Like everyone else i've been wearing my darkened visor but i've not had any problems, I thought they had relaxed the law on them, treating them like sunglasses...?

I was heading to Marlbourugh on the A4 a few days ago, overtook a car on a straight (following another rider infront of me). Wasnt the safest of overtakes, but IMO it was ok to do, then noticed a police car parked up on the other side of the road a few hundred feet ahead, slowled down from 80 back to 60 just in time, lucky they didnt pull us, but i really thought i was [Censored] !

Before i start i i will say sorry this aint a dig its just an alternative point of view

Believe it or not criminals do use vehicles to get around :!: :!: Alot of the work the police do now is intelligence led and they use ANPR. Its also just through random stop/check sights loads of uninsured vehicles are taken off of the road, i know loads of motorists are inconvenienced but you wouldn't be to happy if you were hit by an uninsured driver, i know i wouldn't. At the end of the day if all your docs/vehicle are in order for then they aint gonna make any money out of you.

No offence taken mate so no worries there.

I am not D and C and am unaware of what vehicles D and C use. As for being pushed into going faster well thats not for me to comment on as i dont know what happened with you, but i ride my own ride i decide when to ride quick and when not to (and i have no doubt quick is alot slower for me than it is for you as u).

Everybody speeds and a small percentage get caught and then we hate the system when we are caught, and i say we cause i was caught at just over 90 in a 70 at 1am on the A3 with 3 clear lanes ahead of me. 3 points and £60 fine i didn't like it and thought the bloke that gave me the ticket was a c*ck...........it happens nobody made me drive that fast however ultimately at some point most of us will get caught.
