Honestly? I think inters would have been about right for both. They were head and shoulders above the others in novice in terms of speed but the pace in inters was surprisingly quick, to be honest. I also saw one or two in inters who could have taken their place... and to be honest one or two in the fast group, too.deej wrote:fast group for that one me thinks and taking julian with himspeedy(delboy) wrote:Not Fcuking next year sunshinerschesterfield wrote:i was riding a black cbr400 in the novice group.![]()

Your probably right about Inters for both, although they did look way to fast for the Novice Group. i did a little bit of timing on the ZXR 400 and the 6rr in the Novice group and i was making it about 58 sec a lap compared with the 47/48s a lap of Age in the fast group.leatherpatches wrote:fast group for that one me thinks and taking julian with him

Did anyone else do any lap timing cause i find it hard to believe that Age was near on 4 sec a lap slower than 2 years ago (and i was timing him last year as well and was making it 47/48s a lap).

Re: Gossip THREAD for LLANDOW/PEMBREY 2008
that isnt just a slight difference either - 4 seconds is an absolutely enormous difference on somewhere that short and tight....1 possibly two seconds down because your having an off day I can understand but not 4/5 secs.My bet would be dodgy lap timing somewhere along the lineGSXRsi wrote: Did anyone else do any lap timing cause i find it hard to believe that Age was near on 4 sec a lap slower than 2 years ago (and i was timing him last year as well and was making it 47/48s a lap).
llandow is a hard place to get a clean lap in because by the time you get into a groove there is almost always someone you need to overtake along the way which at a place like that slows you most of the time.
As for the grouping thing as its personal choice what group you go in and the range varies depending on where you are. so there is always the question of people in groups not best suited to them.
I think the way to judge it is not how fast you are going but how many people you are overtaking against how many are overtaking you - if the balance swings massively to one side or the other than move groups other than that you are probably ok where you are. If you feel like a moble chicane move down, if you are getting fustrated by every other corner having someone to overtake in the middle of it move up.

58 seconds was wondering what sort of lap times i was getting. i didnt get to chose the group will go up next year.
its a CBR400 by the way

its a CBR400 by the way
Re: Gossip THREAD for LLANDOW/PEMBREY 2008
Someones timings must be wrong then ... I was clocked doing a 53secs last year on my vfr400 in the novices, i was around 3rd/4th fastest in the group behind Maver-Nick, Moose and maybe funky

i was doing 49s according to my onboard camera and age was quicker than me by a good few seconds a lap so find your 48s slightly wrong. i know age was having a bad day but thought he was still quick enough, granted jason, scotty and layne seemed quicker but those three were flying. there was no way i could stay with them in the corners, well anywhere to be precise
as for the grouping,it was relatively even apart from the odd 1 or 2 in each group, there were 2 or 3 in the fast group that were too slow, hell if i was lappng them they must have been lol likewise ride or die was looking quick in the inters til his off and the cbr4 and julian were too quick for the novices but they'll know for next years day to go up a group.

Re: Gossip THREAD for LLANDOW/PEMBREY 2008
yeh those lap timings definately appear out...look in the onboard vids thread you can measure laptimes easily and fairly accurately in them. there is one of me following Andycbr who was one of the fastest guy in the inters, if not the fastest (and was to an extent being limited by grinding stock footpegs on his bike) he is posting 55's when overtaking traffic then 53's at the end when he gets a couple clear laps. He was lapping most of the inters doing that.LeroyVFR wrote:Someones timings must be wrong then ... the fast group footage I posted hits 47's on clear laps and thats right at the sharp end of it. someone doing 43's would lap me by three quarters of a way through a session.
the fastest I went all day was in the last session when scotty and I where trying to get past/drop off the other. there is a possiblity that either of us might have pipped into the 46's then but definately no faster. Not saying that we are the fastest guys in the world and that someone couldnt post low 40's, just pointing out how obscenely fast a 43/42 lap would be. Its certainly way beyond me.
its all very nerdy dwelling on lap times anyway (i only go to the bother of having a look at the vids to check because I am at work and am desperately trying to avoid some other things I have to do

Re: Gossip THREAD for LLANDOW/PEMBREY 2008
Got to agree with your last paragraph,im only looking out of curiosity and the fact im sat here with my knee in a complete mess thanks to keyhole surgery.
i think we can say it was a relativley quick group apart from the few locals that tagged on, my mates fatherin law has a 365bhp impreza type r that was doing 53s round there so to be 4 secs quicker than that is fairly impressive i think.
laptimes are a weird thing when you compare to the cirucit records, looking at the laptimes i should be a lot slower round donington than i am when compared with the llandow times. its all very odd and depends oh how you ride on the day

yeh and 4 seconds is a country mile at llandow, and also with all those bumps and the bustop its a place that really favours cars so if he cant lap close to you there he has a less than zero chance at a more major circuit.deej wrote:i think we can say it was a relativley quick group apart from the few locals that tagged on, my mates fatherin law has a 365bhp impreza type r that was doing 53s round there so to be 4 secs quicker than that is fairly impressive i think.

Re: Gossip THREAD for LLANDOW/PEMBREY 2008
Well 47/48s are the times i made it and i did it on a lap timer over 8 laps, inline with a fence post on the pitlane straight on the last session before lunch. Like Jason says 4 secs is a massive amount of time to make up and from what i have seen this year and last i think the 42/43s times are unrealistic and this seems to be supported by Jasons video evidence.

Re: Gossip THREAD for LLANDOW/PEMBREY 2008
I agree pretty much with everyone - Jon was timing me on several sessions and most were in the 47/48 mark except for three laps in the middle of my third session I think where he said I just got on with it and did two 46s and a 45.9, then dropped back to 47/48s - I was well pleased with that to be honest, and most of the time I could make up would be by backing off later for the back straight chicane (which, let's be honest, doesn't leave much of a margin for error
) and picking a consistent braking point for the bus stop. I do wish that Jason's camera hadn't packed up in that final session, that would have made some good viewing (I'll be Rossi, you can be Stoner mate
)
I timed Jon in one of the afternoon sessions and he was doing regular 56-ish laps until Funky passed him and dragged him down to a 52s out of nowhere, then the yellows came out and after that Funky went ploughing
I had a shock
when changing the oil on the ZX on Monday night - left hand R&G bung was missing and the engine mounting bolt had sheared, about 8-10mm inside the mounting lug on the frame
I figured it must have gone AWOL at Pembrey sometime, but looking at the photos from here, feck me it had already gone, and I simply hadn't noticed it (I did think the engine was vibrating a bit at Pembrey, I think I know why now..) Good news on the matter is after telling R&G about it, they decided they'd sort it out for me and will collect the bike next week and remove the stud and replace the bung and bolt. I'd be surprised if they didn't replace other bolt and check the current one (and what they can salvage of the snapped stud) in a metallurgy lab to try and figure out why it sheared. At a guess I'd say it broke at the end of the threads - production quality issue.. anyway, they'll fix it in good time for the next one at Brands GP circuit

good old r n g,you dont hear many people complaining about their aftercare and it sounds like theyve done you proud there mate,i wouldnt fit any other brand to my bikes as i couldnt imagine motrax picking up a bike and offering a free replacement bung
was that 3rd session the one you finally made a clean pass on me by any chance,i had to laugh at your cheeky little foot wave to say got ya

Re: Gossip THREAD for LLANDOW/PEMBREY 2008
The 43 sec lap came from 2006 and I think the time came from Leroy but I thought it strange last year when all i could get down to on a good day was 46 secs. Last year I put it down to the Ducati was faster onthat track than my Gsxr, but after being roughly at the same pace this year it must have been a timing error !!! or laptime was taken from when I went straight through the bus stop
Pesonaly I think I should have been on Jasons and Scottys pace !!!!
Age

Re: Gossip THREAD for LLANDOW/PEMBREY 2008
I think its nearly impossible to be accurate with timing from trackside on a track day, unless you time an individuals every lap, discount the slowest 50% for passing other bikes carefully ( its not a race!!) and then taking the average.
For what it’s worth….on the last session we fitted a cam to my bike, with the idea to film, first dynasangel, then being passed by billnom8ates, then being passed by funky. With a clear(ish) track dynasangel does 3 laps ahead of me 59.2, 1.01( traffic), 59.5, then billnom8ates does 1 lap at 54.3 . But even this really still proves nothing as these could have been their slowest laps of the day! Never got the chance to follow funky as the session ended early!!.
I’m not interested in what time I could have done anyway ( opps my nose has got longer )
Jason is absolutely right. If your passing lots of bikes, and not getting passed yourself, you could move up a group. Or down a group for the opposite. your own and everybody else’s safety is all that really matters!
