Yamaha R6
Hello,
right now, i have been offer this R6 for 1500 ( i think ), and its not too far from me. I know the guy selling it, but just wanted to double check with you guys here....
Here the link...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/R6-Yamaha-1999-Ca ... 240%3A1318
Now, he has said i can pay him the 900 i have saved now, then when i sell my bike, pay the rest when i go to pick it up (this is not dodgey, as i know and trust the guy).
Is it worth it, and will an r6 be ok though the winter (as ill be riding all winter long!), or do you think im better off waiting till the new year ? Bearing in mind price will start to go up again then !

Re: Yamaha R6
yeh...if you can get it for £1500 that looks like a lot of bike for the money.
Re: Yamaha R6
Looks good mate, I rode my R6 throught the winter for two years without any rust etc. When you get it, make sure it starts up fine, just choke and press the switch. Also be wary that on high mileage yamahas the transmission can be dodgey so make sure it changes gear smoothly and pulls smoothly in each gear. Other than that they're awesome bikes.

Re: Yamaha R6
Give it a test ride, they have a habbit of loosing 2nd gear. An 03-05 gearbox fits straight in though, which is something im planning on doing in the future, when its got some more miles on it.
But apart from that it looks like a bargain.

The second gear thing is nowhere near as common as the internet would have you believe, the thundercat also has the same problem apparently but i've never actually met anyone in person who's heard of it happening.
Looks good for £1500 though, take it for a ride to make sure you fit (i don't, far too cramped for me) and just be wary of carb icing if you're going to ride it over winter (does the R6 get this, i know Kawasaki suffer, not 100% sure about Yamaha's though)

the engine in yours is quite low mileage steve, dont need to worry about the whole 2nd gear thing

buy it, else i will
Re: Yamaha R6
Not planning on doing it for a year or so but its something I would like done really, since I do a lot of miles it wont stay low mileage for that long, unless I get a 2nd bike for commuting. Or *gulp* keep the divvy.billinom8s wrote:steve-d wrote:Give it a test ride, they have a habbit of loosing 2nd gear. Re: Yamaha R6
any decent dealer will sell and fit the kit, you'll need to get a professional to fit the kit so that its samped and registered to the bike or else your insurance will be invalid, you'll be looking about £250 for a kit fitted

Re: Yamaha R6
Are you going to keep the restrictors in?
Or do you just want to put them in and dyno it or similar. I've got a set you can borrow if your just after the certifacate.

Re: Yamaha R6
Just so you know as well I'd be quick it was posted on a national site where loads of 16 year olds are after R6's.
