SWB BIG RIDE

Look in here for local ride outs...

Forum rules
You are of course welcome along to any Southwestbikers rideout, however your bike must be in good mechanical order (we don’t want anything falling off of it including you), taxed and have a current MOT. You must have a valid motorcycle licence and current motor insurance. You are in charge of your motorcycle at all times and SWB will not accept any responsibility for actions you take or any accidents you may have. Always ride within your own capabilities and do not put others at risk. Remember, while you are on a Southwestbikers rideout you are representing the site and what it stands for.
Thank-you.

Don't forget......ANYONE can organise and run a rideout.

deej wrote:sounds like a good idea,we did a simailir ride earlier in the year with a few from the gixer junies site, met up in plymouth and then rode to padstow for lunch, wasnt a friendy ride though
6 of us left st a,there was afew plymouth lads (jay n jason),some from exeter way (age) would have been more but k7dave n colin dropped out and then some lads came from torquay way. the meeting point was gt's as jaspers had roadworks, the idea worked well and was a good day out

you can only do that with small numbers though, similar bikes and people who have been riding for a long time which is why rides like that tend to just happen rather than being overly organised and promoted, once you get big numbers and varying ability then like billinom8s points out you have to moderate the speed (or the only thing that is sure is that lots of people will be riding over their head and at least 1 of them will crash).

like a few others here I wouldnt ride in a big group nor would I ride on anything that adhered to keeping even remotely close to the limit once you hit the lanes. That white circle with the black line through it means "start having fun now". I dont see the point in getting a bike out to ride in a procession at the speed limit - id rather take the car ,more comfy and a cd player.

If you organise the main ride to your eat spot and just make the eat spot and expected time of arrival known then the bikes that would never ride in a large organised group or would prefer to ride "unmoderated" can head there in a small pack(s) under there own steam and we can still all end up at the same place at the same time.

My main point would be dont do that thing of making the meet up timing such that people have to get on their bikes at stupid oclock in the morning, its cold, the roads are damp even on dry days, you really do have to ride slowly unless you want to end up on your ass. its just all round pointless and much worse than that it messes up your saturday night because it means you cant be drinking yourself into a stupor the night before.

completely agree with you 100% jason, that day out was ace, 20 loons together oh and 1 guy who was so frightened by it all he went and bought a harley ( not k7dave ),it wouldnt work at the speed with the amount of people on here that want to meet up as theres too many diffeences in abilities, bikes and preferences.

i probably wouldnt go as there would be too many bikes and at too slow a pace for my liking but i would be interested in a unsociable unfriendly ride  8) to where ever the meeting point would be and then have a sociable drink with peeps and ride home at my own pace

pass, it'll probably have changed by then although having a cheap bike means i can ride a bit more spirited on track so might well still have it,as said above i doubt i'd join in on the big group ride thing as it doesnt sound any fun to me

ok this sems to be getting out of hand already.

all i am trying to do is get members from the site together, hw fast you get there and what route you take is up to you, please don't have a go at another member if they want to go fast like wise don't have a go if they want to go slower, its all in the taking part. when it comes down to it we all want to get there and back in one piece with a smile on our faces now don't we.

doesn't matter if there is 1, 2,3 or 20 in the group, so long as you all make it thats all that matters.

if the person organising the run up in your area wants to run it at a certain pace and you dont like it, i am sure there will be others willing to join your group/route.

we could end up with 10 or 15 different rides being run on that day - so long as they all meet at the same destination :)

i know there are alot of fast riders on here that positively cringe at the thought of a 'legal' paced outing same as i know there are alot of riders on here that will shite their pants or simply not turn up at the prospect of a faster ride, so we have to cater for all.

i have a feeling i will be sorting 2 rides from exeter.

talk/pm amongst the people in your area who are interested in going, find out what kind of pace they would like and go from there - but please play nice

Well it seems everyone thinks it's a good idea Si and it is. Problem is that people say this but then don't bother turning up  so you do all that planning for nothing. Window shopping ride ring any bells?
