well, I have just read both threads all the way through, sorry but I agree with chaos, I have been riding for over 20 years, yes we are all entitled to an opinion but I think that it needs to be put across in a polite manner, having once already had my type of bike I like to ride attacked on here, I can understand how chaos feels.

Comments like scorpion has made about "finding himself a patch" are insulting to those of us who enjoy the friendship that a bike club who displays a patch presents. If its not for you then fine, but don't insult those of us it is for.

I have said before I don't understand the early sunday morning ride outs that the sports riders like to partake in, but I don't slate them, I just sleep through them, thats what you like to do.. during my many years of riding (and please only comment if you have a similar time of experience,if you passed your test in the last 5 years you got alot of riding to do to catch up on my experience) I have come off, and yes I have face planted, BUT my choice is still to ride without a helmet (sorry Nobby..!!) same as I don't have leathers and I wear paratropper boots..MY CHOICE. A state in america used/ still has a clause that if you rode without a helmet you had to have a million dollar insurance policy to cover the cost of an accident..sounds fair to me!!!

I think that this forum has become too clicky,, its for Bikers of the south west, therefore there will be differnet ideas and attitudes,, but it does appear that if you are not into sports bikes you are not really welcome,, and I speak from experience here.

Comments like these really disappoint and upset me. :( There are a few on here who go to great efforts for the forum, and I think to say this is to slap them in the face, and I personally resent it (as one of them is my partner, and the other a good friend).

Dynsangel organises Christmas parties, pub meets, go karting events and they are open to ALL on the forum - those of us that do go would love to see more from the forum there. Simon (Billinom8s) goes to huge efforts to organise the friendly rides, so that ALL riders on ALL bikes can go. How can you possibly say that you are not made to feel welcome??

My own view is that there are very few on here who are prepared to make similar efforts - ie, prepared to turn up for rides, parties, pub meets, etc. It isn't that there is a 'clique' as such - just that it seems to be the same few who are prepared to make the effort.

Your right there billi and kim, got to agree on a few points and I've said a few times why it is predominantly a sports bike forum and why it is a bit clicky at times, sadly that is the nature of the beast i'm afraid being a localised site one opinion naturally leads onto the other.

I do love you all though (except Gavin)

hi ya billi, good to have some input on this, i will try not to put my view over in a bitchy/cliquey/anti bike kind of a way, ahh well here goes.

firstly i still think this club/forum is all about the bikes (ok and funkys sexual preferences) but mainly its about the bikes and how they take a part in our lives, its like football/rugby everyone loves the idea, just have a slightly differnt way of showing support but when it comes to an international we are all there.

like you, i have been riding for a few years now, 19 at my last count so have seen a few miles, ok most of them dry but i have moved in various biking circles. when i was younger i was in a patch club in yeovil where chops, customs, rat bikes, para boots and army kit was the norm and it was great fun - although anything that had plastic covering the engine was derrided and laughed at.

i have owned twins, strokers and IL4's and enjoyed them al, l so definately have no problems with other styles of bikes.

lets face it, where you get a collection of people all with a similar interest but different approach you are gonna get conflicting opinions and points of view - which for me is good as it keeps the momentum of the forum going.

as for the 'early rides' they have never been bike specific, ask anyone that has been on one, the purpose of them is to get out and enjoy the freedom of the open, EMPTY roads without the hassles of traffic.

i can see where you are coming from with the 'clique' perspective, as it seems that people can 'gang up' what also needs to be put into the equation before the result can be obtained is that it always seems to be the same 20-30 members that post, turn up to pub meets, rideouts, gatherings and the like. naturally this will form a stronger more familiar bond between these people and they will support each other so i can see how it could seem cliquey from an 'outside' view. not meaning that you are an outsider, just not as regular a poster as others.

i hope that newer or propective members do not read these threads thinking that there is unrest within the club/forum, it is a good, friendly place to come and play, but as with most things - you will get more out of it with the more you put into it.

right tea time then i have to go beat the dog with a copy of BSH :D :D :D :D

Everyone has an opinion and are entitled to their own opinion.

This is an open forum and if ya get yor opinion shot down in flames then so be it.

Time to move on.

spot on mate.

its not a life or death matter is it,chaos has had his say and thats that. not everyones going to agree with each other and thats the nature of the beast. unfortunately for billi and chaos their bike and style is in the minority so will not get a equal amount of posts. ive been around bikes since i was born,my grandparents owned a bike shop,my dad was chief paddock marshall at silverstone and donington and i have 2 different jobs in the motorcycle trade so have a small knowledge and passion of motorcycles   so feel fit to comment, sometimes it can come across a bit clique but its more about the fact that people know each other and have private jokes. if i lived further up north i would be more involved with the social side of things,i would probably enjoy the early morning rides as they seem to be more relaxed and enjoyable to me from what ive read on here,my own personal preference is to ride on track and have met a few swb'ers now at various locations round the country and everyones been friendly some better than you'd expect them to be after reading their posts.

the one thing that amazes me in all of this is the fact that poeple want to ride a 100+mph bike without a helmet, are you lot mad ????

I would comment but I only have 7 years of biking experience under my belt, so my opinion doesnt count.

Ok confused :? I dont have a sports bike, Cant ride stupidly fast like some on here, But still do ride outs including the early ones and have never felt out of place or felt like I am holding the rest up. :D

my bikes just gone through quite major surgery to change the riding position from sports tourer to something closer to trumph tiger cos it had to due to my knackered wrist. Do I think that will change how I am recieved the next time i pull into the car park for a ride out frendly or not. NO. Cos I am still the same person and further more I am still on a bike.

i'm sorry that your mate has got upset phil but just like fester its his loss at the end of the day. This forum, the way it is run and the people on it that I have met so far are great, but as with everything in the world people have different views. If people cannot accept that on of all places an open forum then there is nothing the rest of us can do.
Apparently I'm supposed to care!!

Hi Billi, long time no speak ( you said hi when I joined-I had a KLR then...not exactly a sportsbike )
I just wanted to address a few points you made.

You said "having once already had my type of bike I like to ride attacked on here" No one actually attacked you or your type of bike, it was just a few people expressing their views in one post-you got the hump and were going to leave (why?) then changed your mind and stayed.

You said "Comments like scorpion has made about "finding himself a patch" are insulting to those of us" etc, I don't know him, but the comment was a bit of a tongue in cheek response to Chaos saying " I'm what you might call a biker in the true sense, ie; a member of a rather large patch club" thereby suggesting that all others aren't real bikers.

The early morning rides are something special, I used to get up and out last year by 6am occasionally if the weather was good in the (late) summer on the klr mainly so I could get a ride and then be back to spend time with the family, but I also enjoyed the quiet roads. It's also a nice time of day to be out and about. Anyway this year I went on a couple of early ones organised on here(which meant leaving home by 5am to get to the start in Exeter to leave at 6am  ) and really enjoyed the experience-next year if you only do it once-try it.

Your last statement got me the most "but it does appear that if you are not into sports bikes you are not really welcome,, and I speak from experience here"
Where did that come from? I was on both friendly rideouts this year where all were welcome and I haven't witnessed anyone not on a 'sportsbike' being left out, left behind, abused etc, etc. All means all.

I hope you haven't read this as a personal attack, it's not meant to be.

If I could make one suggestion? Join a rideout next year, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the welcome you'd get. :)

And yes you may have noticed the KLR has gone and I currently have a...ahem..cough..sports type bike, it's not forever, who knows what's next.

Billi it was a light hearted sarcastic comment and i cant see why you took offence at it...i didn't take offence when chaos refered to everyone else as sheep....at the end of the day we all go about on two wheels and face the same dangers on the roads and i couldn't give a toss what kind of bike someone rides if they where at the side of the road i'd stop and offer to help...dont take it out on me just cause it's raining again...it aint my fault....you'll be havin a go at me for it going dark early in bit :)

the morning ride outs are not sports bikes only....in fact they almost exclude your stereotypical sportsbike riders by riding at posted limits (and starting at a time in the morining when gsxr riders are inevitabley badly hungover  ). They are there for everyone - I dont even go on them and I can see that.

best thing you can do is not tar everyone with the same brush.... I have done the freedom of choice for gear arguement loads of times on this forum, and im a dry weather only sports bike riding nonce :) ...Usually it ends up me and chris_1127 vs the rest of the forum....I cant say I have ever taken offence at people taking a different point of view though. forums always promote retarded arguements....at least it makes interesting\amusing reading.
