Unmarked police Bike
Not sure if many of you know this story, but an unmarked police bike follwed a guy for ten minutes...
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=W2PBMGmUjTE
I think this is a classic example of inproper use of police time, he could have pulled him over at any given point. I even heard a rumour that the copper let him refuel too.
Definately makes you think about who is behind you, though I normally let them pass then pass them (if I can). If a copper passes you at excessive speed I'd like to know his reason because he isn't following you...
I have to admit watching that on a number of occasions I thought 'that could be me going down the 303'. I know I'll be more careful in future!

Re: Unmarked police Bike
I assume it just the inaccurate speedo on the cops bike but everytime he calls in the speed he seems to be adding 10mph to the speed shown on the camera.
As has already been said, they could have just hit the lights and siren and ended it a lot sooner than they did rather than forcing their way through trying to keep up with him.

Re: Unmarked police Bike
the bike had no lights and siren so he could not switch them on. I have been told by a Sussex traffic cop that the bike used was an unmarked Blade straight from the showroom with the addition of cameras and comms for evidence gathering. The bike was used specifically to target this bloke after Sussex had received numerous complaints about his riding/speed.
Other thing to note the police rider had no power to pull the other guy over either as Section 163 Road Traffic Act 1988 states that the officer must be in full unform, the police rider wasn't.
Got to agree though it did go on for longer than necessary.

Re: Unmarked police Bike
If somebody was following me round and through traffic at high speed like that I'd get suspicious straight away, I always look to see if I'm being followed, its all too common a tactic these days. That biker could have twigged abit earlier =P
Whats more dangerous though, one bike flashing by you? Or one bike closely followed by another as in that video? In situations like that the first one will make it through but the second one will be the cause of the accident. Road wars in sky three =D. The wheelie was abit un-needed wasn't it? lol

Re: Unmarked police Bike
the video would have made him look a bit closer than he was.
Other info i was given was that the police riders actions were looked at and a full report made, unsure if any action was taken or needed to be taken.

Re: Unmarked police Bike
Oh Dear, looks like that guy's gonna do time!
Have to agree with the comments regarding the commentry and the police riders manouvers though, one overtake he pulled with a car coming the other way was far worse than any of the overtakes I saw the dangerous criminal biker pull. Also worth mentioning that after the point at which the copper mentions that the bloke has clocked him his riding gets faster & the overtakes get worse, the chase should have been stopped there as they had enough evidence to do the guy and they must have been able to get a marked unit to stop him. The guy clearly thinks he's got another biker up for a play behind him and starts showing off, whichever way you look at it the danger to other members of the public got increased significantly at that point.
The guy did pull some stupid moves and does deserve to get nicked, but I hope the police biker got grief for some of those moves too.

Re: Unmarked police Bike
i got followed by an unmarked car once, for no other reason (as far as i can tell) than for being in a black bmw with 3 mates. He followed me for ages, through a really random route (i didn't know it was an unmarked car at this point) and i picked up speed a little before pulling over to ask him what the hell he thought he was doing. He pulled up behind me, got out, showed me his ID and said "you were driving a bit quick weren't you?", so i replied "well some random guy was following me for no reason, it was a little bit scary actually, why wouldn't i drive quickly?".
Turns out he was waiting for a patrol car to come pull me over as he wasn't in uniform, that never happened as they were all busy or something. I didn't get charged with anything and never did find out why he chose me, he was a bit of a nob though, real arrogant megalomaniac type.

Im surprised they didnt take that into consideration as mitigating circumstances. didnt want to miss his appointment at Toni and Guy - its a nightmare trying to rebook.

Re: Unmarked police Bike
haha, yeah I'm a very paranoid person Si... I've been followed before and I eventually realized, so I went down an odd route near where I live, few country lanes that I knew and after 25 minutes of this car following me it got lost, could not believe it. Either unmarked waiting for me to do something or somebody tryna find out where I park my bike at night. And yes I'm sure it wasn't a coincide as I doubled back through the route I took, went all the way round a roundabout etc... weird and disturbing!
Anybody got any photos of the local unmarked rozzer's bike?
