The guy in front never changes because as you rightly say you are the only one that really knows the route.
You still do the "pointing" but its who ever is behind you that stops not some group of people that are trying to get back to the front.
This actually helps the newer riders because its then safer as there is no overtaking to be done so less chance of an accident and it takes the pressure slightly off as you know that the person behind is not trying to overtake you

i see what you are aying and that works in some groups but not many have experience of group rides, the people who are junction marking know what they are doing and have done it many times before, they understand the spacial awareness that is required when overtaking newbies. come along on the ride and watch how we do things, i think things should be ok.
