Re: Prison sentence for 122mph biker
The fact that the scamera operator couldn't hold on the target vehicle leads me to think that the speed was due to slippage of the scamera, look at the other vehicles coming towards him, no way are they closing together at 170mph, I reckon his speed was no more than 80mph. I know that stretch of road intimately, it almost claimed my life when an innattentve driver sideswiped me. A decent brief would have raised the issue of the wandering camera and slippage giving a false speed reading.
Yes he was stupid taking his kid on the back with no gloves or protective gear, but other than speeding he broke no other laws and has had an unblemished driving record. A total overreaction by the magistrates, more health and safety testicles by the speedcamera brigade. We all know the risks when we ride and we accept them willingly, I don't need mindless sanctimonious fuckwits telling me what to do and think, I'm quite capable of deciding for myself. The BBC coverage was typicaly biased against the biker, and speeding up the film served no purpose other than sensationalising the report. I've already complained to the BBC about them showing a wheelying biker at the start of the report on airbag jackets being biased and portraying bikes in a negative light, we should all start complaining to them everytime they show bikes in a biased manner, then even if they don't get the message it will at least clog them up replying to everyone.

Re: Prison sentence for 122mph biker
if you will remember his proud comments about his 220mph (1?!?!) busa when he got caught...
You make the bed you lie in and my money says that in court the clown probably did a good job of ensuring he got hit with the full force of the legal system.
I think the guy is a bit dimwitted I can understand youthfull exuberance, but surely with age should come a bit of wisdom - I think it missed this guy out. I wouldnt speed with a pillion on - let alone my son (im maybe a bit paranoid having crashed with pillions twice in my younger days, giving someone else gravel rash is worse than getting it yourself)
all that said I still think prison is ridiculous overkill and just another example of this countries somewhat daft fixation with speeding being the ultimate danger

The way this incident was dealt with stinks!
For some reason, this country has and does look down its nose at motorbikes. They are perceived as dangerous, probably steming from the fact that you have to balance to ride one and that takes to much thinking and skill on its own for most people. Plus all the bike haters were probably crap on a push bike as a child.
Looking at the video clip on its own does does not look dangerous to me. Its was in a straight line, with few cars on the road. Yes it was raining and yes we now know that he was speeding. Speed doesnt kill. Its the being a twonk, not paying attention or bad skills at the time that kills. Although I admit that driving/riding at say 20mph is a lot different to 70mph.
That advert on telly with the girl saying hit me at 30mph and a I stand a certain better % at staying alive. Hit me at 40mph etc, ill die. What a crock of pooh. I say dont hit the kid at all. Pay attention in the 1st place.
They say that his son was not wearing any protective clothing. well by law you dont have to. Only a crash helmet. He had one on. They say the son was only holding on by the seat etc. Well on bikes thats called the grab rail.
What the biker did was wrong, make no mistake. The road is not a race track. The biker should have been banned for twelve months. Perhaps made to do some community service? Even fined but sent to prison? what a crock of rubbish. This sentence was political and nothing more. If he had been pulling a power wheelie or weaving in and out of oncoming traffic at 122mph then we would have been looking at a more serious incident.
I know the current stats about bikes making up feck all of the total road users but accounting for a lot more of the accident stats blah blah blah. Well thats because most bike vs car accidents, sorry collisions
In this country today, you have robbers, burglars etc walking from court because the country does not want to lock em up as the law says. Because they do not want to foot the bill! As already stated, I bet if the biker had stolen the bike and got caught ( by a speed camera???) by a copper, he would not have been locked up. Unreal
Its probably not the done thing what Im saying here but.......I discussed this incident with my colleagues at work and we all came to the same conclusion. A ban and a fine. With possible community service at most. NOT prison.
Myself and my colleagues are coppers. The Laws not an ass but the judicial system is!
Right ive finished my donut and tea. Im going for a walk, wheres my tit.

i only found out today that he did this back in April '08! Why did it take so long for it to hit the news and for him go to court etc?

Well ive just read the front page story in the North Devon Journal and all i can say is what an absolute loser.
From what i read,he's basically blaming it all on the Busa and suzuki for making it.The quote at the end got me though: "My advice to any bikers out there would be to just get rid of your bike and take the risk away".
Or you could just not do 122mph, with an unprotected child on the back. in the rain. past a speed camera. Retard.
Ah well, that'll learn 'em.

Borrowed from another forum, lets see how this compares when she gets her day in court!!
Boy, aged 5, gets helmetless ride from mother
By Visordown News
Police nab 23-year-old mother riding on main road with child sat on petrol tank
A WOMAN has been caught riding a motorcycle along a main road with her five-year-old son sitting on the petrol tank, a police report said.
Traffic officers stopped the 23-year-old woman in Glenrothes, Fife, after she was seen driving the bike with the child - who was not wearing a crash helmet.
She was charged with a number of driving-related offences and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal at Kirkcaldy. The woman was spotted by officers during a routine patrol of a housing estate Wednesday morning.
Inspector David Houston, deputy head of road policing at Fife Constabulary, said: "Any normal drivers on the road would have been extremely surprised to see something like that. I have little doubt that the woman involved in this case now fully recognises that danger that she placed her young child in.
"I would appeal to parents to think carefully about the decisions they take to provide 'fun' for their kids. All too often we have attended incidents where motorcycle or quad bike misuse has led to injuries to young people. This case unfortunately highlights the misguided decisions that some people make."

Following on from this, just wondering if anyone else has seen MCN today? Turns out this guy is having his mortgage paid by a complete stranger while he serves his prison sentence because the guy thinks its totally unjust! The thing that I don't think was quite so clever though was his comments about the busa's - 'A blip of the throttle on a Hayabusa will take you to 120mph in an unthinkable moment...' now if that isn't asking for backlash from anti-motorcyclist campaigners I don't know what is!

Re: Prison sentence for 122mph biker
Noticed last night that Lord Ahmed is being released after serving only 16 days of the 12 weeks. Apparantly because of his community work. Some might think it is more to do with the fact that he is a Labour Pier and ex government minister. He wasn't on a bike of course when he killed someone so that would be OK.
