well done somerset c##ty council

Post by gazkwak »

went out for a run this mornin headed out along the b3227 all was well had a good run on the way back came back down the b3227 to find road workers laying tar and chucking gravel at it, result fav road f##ked for the summer, bike cacked in gravel and tar, had to creep along at 5mph and when we got of the section of road had to scrape half inch of gravel off of the tyres, you can tell when you cross from somerset to devon or any of the surronding counties just by the 300% improvement in the road condition, if you would all be so kind as to send emails to somerset county council telling them what a bunch of t##ts they are. cheers gaz

funny i was just about to post a similar thread! Cornwall council have done something exactly the same on the perranporth st agnes road sketchy as bugger, i rang in and complained the road is lethal! Maybe we need a sticky thread on this subject, dangerous road surfaces!

would need to complain about the whole of devon then, no doubt they have started somewhere , but it is the potholes that need sorting

They're not interested my friend. The problem is you get sent on a wild goose chase of who's the right person to complain to, then when you finally do find someone, they're woefully inadequate at understanding.

Hint - woman called Liz Payne-Ahmadi at the Council.

I once reported a huge lump of cement on a downhill corner and it was removed within the month.
DCC FTW!

At the moment in north devon theyre repairing the potholes caused by the freeze thaw and theyve resurfaced a manky old roundabout into a lovely smoothly tarmac'd knee-down one...well it will be soon as the stones clear

Theyve also 'resurfaced' a few back roads with the 'dump a load of gravel and spread it around' method too.

Pretty much all councils do that as it's a cheap fix rather than do the job properly
A few years ago a road leading into Dartmouth was done with that method, unfortunately it took a riders life

Remember when they did the Torpoint road last year, completely ruined a good road for 2 months. Still not 100% now towards Trerulefoot end

And you don't think there's method in their madness :? Two months of bikes not using one of the (statistically) most dangerous roads in the area .... from their perspective it sounds like a winner to me

Just a heads up, there's loads of sections just been done on the A358 Taunton - Williton and also the A38 J24 back into Bridgwater has been tarred and feathered.

I thought this method of road surfacing was a really light duty one, suitable for council housing estates and carparks. Putting it on major routes is baffling.

I seriously think there will be a death before long on one of these recently laid sections.

And by the way, when it says "10mph" why is there always some f*cking MORON coming towards you at 50? If I'd been able to turn around this morning and go after the c*nt in the Audi just outside Lydeard, he'd be nursing a thick lip now, for showering me with gravel.

Well I complained, and as predicted I've had two responses so far, 'Not my department, but I'll forward your comments' etc....

For those that care, look here: http://www.somerset.gov.uk/somerset/ete ... dclosures/, they're doing a lot of 'surface dressing'.

As the road conditions deteriorate, prices rise, and budgets are forced to stay flat because it's politically unpopular to raise council tax, it is inevitable that more and more roads will be resurfaced with tar & chippings (another way of saying "surface dressing").

In fairness, we've had it pretty good for many years now, as this used to be a standard way of treating rural roads 15yrs or so ago, and you'd spend most of may/june/july feeling as if you were doing the dakar rally

I've just picked up a big chip on my car windscreen due to the spray it and dump it method! My insurance will cover it but actually that means that we all get to pay in increased premiums so no money is saved overall! The council seem to have no long term view as these cheap and nasty methods don't last so they spend the same money over and over and we get a rubish road surface in the meantime. You never see the road sweepers out a few days after sweeping up the excess gravel, it just gets left until it is flung off..... mostly at my windscreen!

On an upside devon CC have at least completely recurfaced the A303 between the chard turn off and newcott garage. 8) Nice bit of road now.

Mind you with the amount of pot holes that it had I don't think they had much choice.
