Best & Worst of Biking

Post by boyscout »

What about telling everyone your top 5 best (and to almost keep balance - top 3 worst biking memories)? I'll kick off (and I'll use chronological order...)

Best:
1. 1983 - Touring the Falkland Islands post-war on a TS185 and Can-Am 250.
2. Any Bol D'Or in the early 1990's.
3. First track day at Assen in 1993.
4. 1999 - Son surviving bike bike crash - you know who! (re-worded I could've put this in Worst?)
5. 2000 -Crossing Alps on T595 with a 'blade and an 851; 160mph run down into Italy.

Worst:
1. 1976/77 - nine months in hospital after collision with Vauhall Cresta.
2. 1993 - Blowing up my one year old GSX750 after Assen track day and Bol D'Or !!!
3. 1995 - Losing a good mate in a head-on during a ride-out.

Come on, lets hear yours!

1. Any day when the suns out the roads are dry and there are like minded people around and no police or ambulances are involved.
2. Winning the South West AMCA Junior Motocross championship in the first year I took up racing MX'ers.
3. Summer Trips to thruxton Brands etc to see WSB or BSB - always a laugh.
4. first ever GSXR - start of long term addiction to Gixxers.
5. Getting to see the IOM TT.

worst

1. banned for a year for wreckless driving/speeding at 19.
2.Clipping the grass verge on the old road down by the holland inn at over 70mph and all the suffering and hospital time that went with it.
3. Anything to do with police.
4. Rideouts I have been on where people have chucked their bikes down the road and badly injured themselves.
5. The times I spent commuting in the cold and wet before I realised that cars where the best tools for that job.

Best (in no particular order) :

1 Getting on a bike for the first time after years of being Kids Taxi
2 Pi$$ing off dispatch riders in Exeter on THE first Aprilia 125 which could do a ton. most stable bike I've ever ridden even got my knee down with that :D
3 instructing others (on the old 2 part test) and watching the first twinkle of bikelove in their eyes.
4 Just riding for the hell of it
5 taking an engine /complete bike appart and putting it back together again

worst :

1 demolishing a stone wall with my head when I was 17 after losing it on spilt diesel on adverse camber
2 both me and the bike being picked up and dumped on the verge by galeforce winds outside Culdrose (still need a dictionary)
3 losing a friend to a cardriver that pulled out in front of him
4 recovering bikes from accidents/fatalities for the police
5 being without a bike

I'm really enjoying reading the responses to this thread (first one I've started, I think, so thanks... would've felt cr@p if no-one had posted!). Reading through, the same themes are cropping up... just wanted to say ... enjoy your riding and ride safe!
