Re: 150mph my arse!
115mph from a restricted NC30 that's good, my Honda CB500S only does 115mph unrestricted.
The policeman will look a numpty if they find the bike is restricted. Strange how the brakes only came on for no more than a second at the end, if he was slowing from 150mph he must have phenomenal engine braking. With fixed speed camera's they measure the distance you travel over the white lines between the 2 photos, and the lane marking lines on the A38 are a fixed distance apart. 100mph is 44.7m/s (meters per second) so if you could be bothered, you could calculate his speed by the number of white dashed lines he passed in a second.
Also as I understand it, the bottom of the tyre is moving forward at the same speed as the bike, while the rear of the tyre is moving upwards and forwards, and the top of the tyre is moving forwards at twice the forward speed of the bike and rider. Thus if the radar was on the top of the tyre when 150mph speed was measured, it would mean that the forward speed of the bike was in fact 75mph

That last paragraph is interesting. Is that actually true?

Re: 150mph my arse!
the speed of the surface of the tyre will depend on the radius etc of the tyre
for a given speed, a smaller wheel will obviously be rotating faster than a larger wheel

Re: 150mph my arse!
ok so some guesstimation gone on as I havent a clue about the size of your sports bike tyres
but 17" wheel, plus the tyre, maybe 22" dia, call it 56cm
by my reckoning, they say 150mph, well maybe yes, tyre speed of 150mph at the top, would give a spindle speed, ie along with the rest of the bike of 85.7mph
now factor in the over reading of his speedo
he says he was doing 90, I beleive him

Re: 150mph my arse!
just been and watched that video again, immediately before the reading flashes up the "crosshair" is hovering over the tail light and numberplate
be very interested to know the range that the gun was being used at and also the spec/class of the laser/infra red units
also are they "zeroed" regularly
I bet that the diffusion of them at that range would have easily opened up the scanned area to include the well exposed rear tyre

Re: 150mph my arse!
Agree with all the above, about 90 -100 tops.
Surely it must be possible to work it out some other way????
I know he's been a pratt licence wise but getting done for 150 is serious stuff maybe even pokey time, that can't be right if he was really doing 90ish

A good lawyer should be able to clear him of all charges on this. Probably worth him getting MAG involved as they ran a campaign about not using these guns on bikes.

then he could go down the route of discrimination against bikers in the public sector by 'pillars of the community'
do you notice how on the article there isn't the normal - post your comments box - wonder why that is ????
