Cars

Post by steve-d »

They suck.
I wanted to give up bikes after a van pulled out on me and I crashed the diversion trying to avoid going into the back of it.
Sold my R6 to put a decent wedge towards the insurance. Bought a 1.6 megane sport. Passed my test on thursday, insured it same day. Now £1400 quid worse off.
The novelty of driving has already worn off.
Its take 35 minutes to get to work instead of 15 on the bike. Its slow as. Put my foot down revs go up lots of noise petrol guage goes down, speedo goes up incredibly slowly. I'm getting 25mpg which is worse than ragging the tits off the R6.
I hate it, already regret it so much. I don't care if its warm, dry, safer and practical.
Can someone please turn back time a month so I don't bother doing lessons and selling my R6.

I want another bike. :(

Thats exactly what im planning to do this year, sell bike to free up money for car license, meantime buy cheaper bike- sell for winter and buy car.sell car next summer for sports bike.

Note its probably a good idea to wait til summers finished before being bikeless as youve found out! :80:
Bikeless again :/

I wanted a diesel to start with. Learnt in a disieasle then bought a petrol. Good job it was cheap. Although it will cost me in the long run. Somehow I've used half a tank in 120 miles.
Bought a 1.6 cause I thought, oh it won't be that slow.
I'm literally looking on ebay autotrader pistonheads in all my spare time for something half decent that I can afford. Looking at SRADS and zxr 750's are within budget.
God I miss bikes.

Sounds like a better plan than mine anyway. Bikes in winter suck. Not having a bike in summer. Even worse.

Horrid things, think they were fibreglass. Used to be one in Falmouth, looked OK from a distance but up close you could see it was typical 15yr old Renault complete with Renault 19 interior and smoking like nothing else!!

Steve-d, to be honest, if you're used to fast bikes, any car will be so frustrating, a fast car even more socos you can't use them.

I've had a couple of Imprezas 10 years ago before they got chavy; liked the idea of 4WD performance as it would be used in the wet and it was fun but found it so annoying having spent all that money on the car, petrol, tax and insurance to be stuck 10 cars back from a 40mph everywhere driver. Passing 1 car at a time in a car, winds people up more than if you're doing it on a bike.

My favorite quick cars have been small, cheap to run and fast (Mk1 Golf GTIs, CRXs 16 & VTec, Celica 190, Ibizas - GTI & Cupra Turbo) but can still be frustrating when other traffic is around.

I've gone diesel (BMW 320d 150hp) now only cos the car was offered at a decent rate.

Why not consider a small warm hatch (Saxo VTR, Corsa SXI), something that can be run and maintained cheaply and keep riding with something like an older CBR600?

i didn't buy one of those jay - i have always stayed away from sporty cars as the insurance was always too much, plus like you said, why have all that money tied up in something that sits in traffic jams ???

i prefer to have all that money tied up in something that sits in a garage :D :D

my list of cars is nothing short of spectacular when it comes to boring - not one performance model in there.

sportiest thing i have every owned is my rover 220d and that cos it has a turbo :)): :)): :)):

ahhhh you see you need a mini fairly cheap to run (however insurance is very varied) but most definately lots of fun! granted not the fastest car in the world but many people have done engine conversions putting red tops, vtecs and bike engines in them! plus you have the advantage over everyone at corners :D absolutely love them!

im very much into my cars (cos ive had the opportunity to drive a wide range of different ones) more than my bikes but im sure that will change as I've only been riding for 3months
