With the track fairing I bought a tank came with it. I thought that because it had been sat for a while I would put some petrol in it and give it a swill around in order to make sure there was no debry. Opening the fuel filler cap I noticed some rust. When I emptied the tank after giving it a good swill and shake these rust deposits came out:
After swilling it through twice more there wasn't much like this coming out, but I'm concerned that there might still be some left in there.
Some I'm wondering, shall I use this tank for my track bike and put plenty of redex in or put the old one back on (that I would prefer to keep as a spare 'just in case')?
id say stick another paper/mesh inline fuel filter straight after the tank if your worried, when it blocks replace with another then hopefully allk the rust will be left in the old gummed filter? altho that is the lazy way

Use some Petseal on the tank (readily available on ebay etc) and seal it all in, then you can use it without issue, fitting more filters will just slow down the fuel flow and run the risk of fuel starvation at higher rpms.
I was under the impression that I had to use the petseal after I had cleaned out the tank? The tank is as clean as I can get it, but I'm just concerned about the possibility of left over residue that i can't get out of the tank...
I'm reluctant to do the in line filter as the K4 one is actually in the tank and is a big ol' thing that may be the pump as well (will have to check manual on this) so that would get messed up first anyway...
Sticking in a load of nuts with some white spirit has been suggested to me which I'm tempted by as I can then use magnets to get them out.
Do it yourself with some petseal it's easy, just take out the fuel pump etc and do it, it helps if the tank is cold as it takes longer for the petseal to go off than if it is hot.

NO never use that petseal crap i have used it 3 times and every time it came off and caused more trouble than it is worth

Funky
get the complete kit mate it is worth it t did a good job on my 250 tank, the cleaner got a lot of crap out first, then the rust remover primer it looked like new inside the the POR seals it POR is not epoxy, Petseal is and i have used it 3 or 4 times and every time it came off again meaning i had to get a kit from http://www.tankcareproducts.co.uk/ at £50 to sort it out so petseal has cost me hundreds not saved bugger all

You obviously haven't done it correctly then, most tanks require at least two pack of it to seal correctly all round the inside, if you leave any patches not covered then fuel gets down behind it and it starts to break down.

hmm not done it correctly i shook it around for bloody ages every time made sure it was all over the tank, and i am not the only one, this stuff is no good at all, i know of several other people who have used it and had the same problem,
I would not trust it.
