Meta Alarm Removal

My meta alarm on the ZX9R is playing up big time, leaving me stranded with the imobiser and all sorts of flashing lights and sounds. It clicks away to itself and turns lights on when there is no key in the ignition and I guess it has gone past its useful life.

I need to get it removed, but it is wired in really well (all black wires, which need following to their end point and possibly resoldering old ones back together(?) Far too complicated for me - does anyone know a good bike auto electrician or alarm fitter in Exeter or Exmouth area who could help me?

I haven't been on here for a good 12 months as loads of stuff has happened in my life outside of bikes

Can't shake bikes off though, so I hope to be out and about this spring/summer

Many of the Meta alarms were insurance approved, any VSIB installer should be able to remove it for you. Alternatively, get one to fix it & supply a fitting certificate, you may save this by getting more insurers to quote for you.

I had a Meta on a Fireblade and it was the key fob that gave problems - have you tried the other fob? - they came with 2 plus a kit to convert your key (so it's like a car key/alarm).

Appreciate it's all black wires but you will find the original bike harness is still there, just disconnect each wire from the alarm one by one. Look for any of the bike wires which 'go through' the alarm, ie you may have, say, 2 yellows in the bike's wiring connected to the alarm - this could be the same wire originally which needs reconnecting.

For obvious reasons, these alarms are intended to be difficult to remove.

With most alarm/immobilisers they have the majority of the wire spurred into the loom for the indicators, there will then usually be two or three wires that are spliced into and effectively go through the alarm box. follow all the wires back to the loom, then remove the large sheathing that covers all the install area, you will then see that it is a simple matter of removing the spurred wires and insulating the termination, then removing the spliced wires and reconnecting the original wiring either side of the splice. It is a piece of piss to do as t he wires you are rejoining will be the same colours. I removed the DataTool alarm/immobiliser from my 750K5 Gixxer because it was a fuckin' nightmare going off if a cat farted too close to the bike, and finally went berserk after the bike had been washed. There were two wires that were spliced through the box and the rest were just repeaters for the indicators to flash, and a pair for the arming LED, the tilt sensor was part of the alarms own wiring harness.

Simple I cheated, I rode it into Jez at CCR bikes in Exmouth on the way to work and he phoned me 90 minutes later to say he had taken it off He told me he has done loads of alarm removals. The tricky bit was getting the bike started to get it there - I had to disconnect the main battery for a couple of days and had one chance to start it when I reconnected before the alarm internal battery kicked off again - I reckon it was the -16C we had over Christmas sent it ott..

Looks a nice place where you are in France. May have to pop over some time...
