Brittany 2013, Euro 'friendly' trip

Post by Red5 »

OK, after some discussions and decision making this is a preliminary plan.

September 2013

5days / 4 nights based in Brittany, NW France, not Britney!!

Costs should be in the region of £650. This includes :
Ferry,
B&B&Evening meal,
Fuel
Euro breakdown cover.

Plus extra spending money and beer tokens.

So for those who want to take on their first euro bike trip, this is the one.

As a rough idea, looking at an early ferry Poole/Cherbourg arriving in France about 1030hrs, local time. ride to destination 4.5 hrs plus lunch and a fuel stop.

days 2,3&4 riding, sight seeing, eating drinking being merry...
then day 5, reasonably early set off to ferry port, back in UK for 13oohrs, ride home from Poole.

So in a nut shell that's what's happening. Questions etc please ask away.

Am in negotiations with a great B&B at the mo. mototaranis.com. Would be awesome if we could book the whole place out for the 4 nights. Assuming people wouldn't mind sharing with each other. Looks absolutely great.
Not been given a price yet but they've provisionally said they will at least keep prices the same for next year if we can book early enough, £50 deposits per person paid by September this year.
Will let everybody know what the results are, talking to them this weekend, and the best way to pay. Probably via myself so we have a central booking point.

I've just started a list of who's up for it so far. Will make a definitive list once deposits are recieved once I've sorted the best way to do it.

If poss could you do a rough cost of trip excluding the fuel so we have a idea of separate costs or was that based on fuel to and from French France, also on the mototyrawhatisit web site they mention they provide beers and wine as part of the evening meal package? That said I have the green light from the boss to take part in said trip so I'd be well up for it! Please keep me involved as well up for it, road trip! :D
One other thing can any queing be avoided as when I went to Euro Disney I nearly had a fight with a Frenchy!

Sounds a bit far. Any chance of condensing it to around 100 miles and a Sunday morning?

The exact prices are hard to say right now as there will be variations. But that £650 should include everything, barring extra beer tokens and lunches, but they have shops and everything on that side to. Am actually looking at including packed lunches from the B&B at a group rate. But all said and done, count on £650, will let people know more precise prices as I know myself.

The packed lunch idea is just that right now, an idea, depends on what people prefer. probably be an optional extra once there. I know I'll probably be having it.
Assume I'm adding your name's down for this trip Mr Pants??

I'm keeping a close eye on this Luke. Had the okay from the missus already, just need to see the final cost.

Once cost are as final as they can be (within reason), I'll be able to give Houston a go/no go for launch.

We got loadsa time to sort this. I for one wouldn't mind going to Normandy and doing the landings again but this time on 2 wheels but that is just me as I had to rush it last time. For a first trip is a 4.5 hour hike on the other side of the road a good idea? We could do it this side and have digs not too far from the ferry port in France. Like I said at the meeting just about everywhere in France is bike friendly and there are loads of B&B's run by ex pats. MCN have loads advertised.

I FOUND THIS LITTLE STONKER
