FREE BIKER FIRST AID COURSE!!

Post by DaveRobbo »

Gang - loads been happening since last post. All change at Somerset Road Safety with Jim Newman leaving to earn some real money!
Anyway enough old guff and to the freebie:-

There will be a bikers first aid course on Friday 10th August at Yeovil Fire Station, which starts at 0900 and finishes at 1500. (be there for tea and biscuits at 0830). The course is run by South West Ambulance Trust and is called 'icare' - especially designed for bikers who may be first on scene at an accident. I'm sure Smiler and Lofty Lee would be happy to endorse the course.

I can offer 9 places, free of charge on a first come, first served basis. Usually this is for Somerset based bikers only, but on this occasion I am able to open the offer up to everyone (until I get a telling off).

You will need to book through Eliza on 01823 423438 and quote the reference SRS/FA1 :-c

If more people want to do this than I have places for, I hope to run further courses in the future - I may have to charge a nominal admin fee for non-Somerset bikers, but not this time.

All you need to bring is yourself and a packed lunch - although there is a good sarnie bar by nearby.

Get dialling chums, hope to see you there!

Robbo.

lol! Simon, behave!

Aimed at ALL riders ~ I thought the course was great! Anything that can be useful in the event of an incident can only be a good thing learned..I dont know why more 'sportsbike' riders dont attend things like this (FREE!! as well!) anyone can have an accident, doesnt matter what you ride or indeed how people end up involved in an incident - the point here is to be useful IF it should ever happen!

Thanks for posting Dave, hope you get lots of people sign up!

Simon
most first aid courses are about what to do until the emergency services arrive, not really a lot you can do without the proper equipment aprt from try to keep the patient calm and breathing really
Interesting to learn first aid though, I did one as a drivers CPC course last week, the rolling into the recovery position is a piece of piss when you know how eh , but we never did removing helmets as it was a first aid at work course, we need someone to do this in devon i reckon , and just hope we never need to use it !!!

and anyone that has an iphone/ android etc the red cross have a first aid app you can download and it will guide you through the procedures of what to do in most situation , including preparing for an eathquake

Went along yesterday, great course and very knowledgable tutors.

Not just first aid, thought provoking stuff such as where would you position your bike if you came across the scene of a collision ? Easy eh ? Not at all, other road users potentially approaching at or over speed limit and you and your bike could be directly in their path.

My occupation is a lifeguard / first aider but I was really impressed and would recommend it to any rider.

Looks like they may have another course on 15th September in Dorchester - get yourselves signed up !

Glad those who attended enjoyed it, and it was good to meet you.
I have one more course in the pipeline for 2012, hopefully will be able to do it late October or early November. As I mentioned in the initial post, I may be able to offer it to non-Somerset bikers by way of a 'donation' to course. I'll post details in plenty of time.
Cheers,
Robbo.
