To much oil

Hi All looking for some help and advice. I have just done an oil and oil filter change on my GSXR 1000 and can I start by saying "torque settings" people the oil filter was on tighter then the rear axel nut

Anyway with everything changed and the oil level set I know that you need to run the engine for a couple of seconds to get the new oil through the filter and round the engine and then top up again. So did so waited a minute for the oil to settle and sure enough was below the low line so topped it up. Did this again a second time then all looked perfect.

However having come out this morning and



So question can I just leave it and ride it and let the excess burn itself off or do I need to get some out?
And if I need to get some out what's the best way of doing so?

You should really drain some out as there is far to much in there and if you read the suzuki guide it tells you to fill the oil level half way between the full and low line so half way on the sight glass

What's the best way to try and do it syphen some out or drop the sump plug again and refill?

Undo the sump plug slowly and keep hold off it and just slowly move it away till iy starts draining but you will get oil on you lol if you over fill on the gsxr you will start blowing oil seals on them

Coz I took the rear axel off a couple of hours earlier as whist doing servicing got the new tyres put on. Had to use a chain rench on the oil filter in the end and nearly ripped the thing apart trying to get it off luckily managed to keep it in one price and got it moving but was looking pretty mangled by the time I got it off.

Any way new filter back on

New tyres on front and back and axel done up with electronic tourque tool

If only had not over filled the oil would have been very happy with myself.

When you did up there rear axle bolt and front did you have a extention bar on the torque rench if so did you adjust the torque value to take in consideration off this as adding a different leverage point changes the torque value when doing up a bolt

I think you should read the Suzuki manual.
Most manufacturers recommend checking when hot probably as many owners do not have level parking whereas filling station forecourts are level but of course you have run the engine to get there.

Drop the oil out asap before you damage something!!

Also oil filters are designed to self tighten to prevent leakage.

Also gee you are right as the extension with change the torque value. And too be fair a few seconds is not enough to circulate the oil to the filter.

It should be fit filter
Top up oil to max
Run for 15ish seconds to reach optimum oil pressure.
The filter usually carry's less oil the the minimum to maximum. Top up oil to between 1/2 and 2/3 up the sight glass.

Over full oil as sI will tell you (as it was when his r1 was previously) will change crank case pressure and can cause nearly as much damage as too little oil.

It's even worse on a diesel though

...and something that I found out a few years ago. You need to replace the sump plug before putting in the oil.

But then again they could also use a doughty washer, or aluminum reseal washer, or even some use plastic washers now also. But it is good practice to change it as and where applicable.

As with alluminium sumps they sometime's even state changing the whole sump plug to make sure the threads are as good as can be.
