Motorcycle servicing recommendations

Post by Breham »

I change my oil every other year, but then like to get my bike serviced for peace of mind. Problem now is Treens in Crediton not doing serving work as their mechanic is sick, I have just found out that Motorcycle Magic in Sidmouth has now closed its doors. I need to get my Yamaha MT01 and my Harley lowrider serviced this year.

I done a few search and The Motorcycle Co and John Tremlett both in Newton Abbott have good reviews. Welcome any feedback or other recommendations as I really need somewhere that can do them while I wait.

Many thanks

Rich

So do you change your own oil & then get them serviced, or is it at the service when the oil gets changed?

I'm surprised to hear to venture as far as Sidmouth, aren't you out near Torrington?

Every other year Rich, one year I do it and then every 2 years I get a full service down at a garage.

You can have a nice lunch in Sidmouth while they do the bike. 😀

I know.. I use to live there. :)
I never knew there was a bike shop there.. but then I did move away in 2014.

When I lived there I use to use this place in Ottery but for MOT's (as I do my own spannering).. might be worth a try.

There's several near me but the chance of arranging a service while you wait is slim..
but this guy (Andy) is a good guy (and is who I trust with my wheels for tyre fitting) so might be worth trying.

I think my neighbour takes his BMW 1200 there for servicing and hangs around to help Andy move his bike around.

That's all I can think of for now.

I only discovered at Seaton Bike night last Thursday that Motorcycle Magic closed for business in February.
I don't know anything about The Motorcycle Co, wherever they are.
John Tremlett Motorcycle in Ashburton is good but always very busy.
Brown's Motorcycle in Ottery St Mary is family run, local to me, does my MOT's and is good for servicing (although I do all my own). Give owner Graham a ring on 01404 813853, mention my name if you want. There's also a good cafe about 200 yards away (Sal's) - give me a ring if you go with them and I'll meet you for a coffee.
Treens Motorcycles have a branch in Exeter - Unit 4, Ashton Business Centre, Ashton Road, Marsh Barton EX2 8LN. I know nothing about the services they offer.
Compass Motorcycles, as mentioned by Jug, are in Axminster and have a decent local reputation.
Triumph Sprint ST 1050.

I've used Brian Loram Motorcycles, Milber Trading Est, Newton Abbot, for the last service on my 790 Duke and wife's CB300R. Very laid back, only working 3 or 4 days a week now, but he's well versed in everything including engine builds and old Harleys. Might be worth a call.
KTM 1190ADV - sold
KTM 790ADV - sold
KTM 790 Duke - sold
Honda CB300R - sold
Honda NC750X DCT - sold
Yamaha MT-07 Y-AMT - very modern
1981 Suzuki TS185ER - very much not modern 🙄

Thanks for the suggestions and will look into them. Banditman not keen on Treens in Exeter, more of a tyre and cheap new motorcycles.

John tremlett motorcycle is good but busy.
I’ve not used Brian loram but I know a friend that uses him and he’s very happy with he’s services.
I’ve not used Motorcycle Co but I did go it to book not and they were moody and didn’t seem interested.
