Do restrictor kits not affect insurance?! My ZXR is GRP12 and the 9R is GRP15 (I dont want a E model). Just because it says its restricted, doesnt mean it is, I'd take out, or have the washers taken out straight away, hey make 33bhp for a Hayabusa, but you'd never fit one  .

Its something to think about, if I could afford it there are many other bikes I could also afford, but I really like Kawasaki's. So maybe I'd have to put up with a 6R until I could afford a 9R.

Going to get a quote as soon as to see...

I don't think it'd be a case of "putting up" with a 6R m8 - I think you'll like it and maybe won't feel the need for the 9R. As I said, the 6 I had was great & I only really changed it for touring, otherwise I would have stuck with it.
See if u can take one out 4 a test run & see what u think.

Ok Finally got some correct figures on all of this...

Check out...

http://www.vauntage.co.uk/bike_groups.htm

It lists my TLR as a grp 16 (correct) and the TLS as a grp 15 (also correct)

So it's figures on all the other bikes listed should be correct...

ZX-7R and ZX-9R are both grp 16 (Not 17 as I thought!)

Even so 18 with 2 yrs NCB m8...it's gonna sting big time...

Jewell wants a TLS (grp 15) and even though he's been riding a few yrs and got NCB's...he still looking at over 1000 for TPFT! And that ain't even the superbike group 16/17 which is howcome I got stung a bit with the TLR being a 16...if I got the TLS for me being 23 with 4 yrs NCB would have been alot cheeper!

Anyway...A good site to indicate the direction of the wind is this one...

http://www.insurance2000.co.uk

Use them to judge how different bikes/circumstances will cost you...you can use the back button on internet explorer on that site...change details (like different bike etc) to find out how much insurance is going to cost you (Make up the Reg mark!)

I always use them as a benchmark for when phoning around for insurance... got it £60 cheeper in the end than what they quoted...so they wasn't toooooo far off base!

If you are sticking with Kawasaki's, why not a ZZR600? More comfortable than your ZXR400, sporty and obviously more power/grunt than the 400.
And cheaper than a Ninja ZX6R for insurance.

Definitely get some quotes before making up your mind. At 17 I'd imagine nearly every sportsbike 600 or above would be high on insurance, if you can get insured on them at all. Not a problem if you are willing to pay the high amounts though I guess.

The ZZR600 was also known as the ZX6E in the American market. Review here...

ZZR600 and YZF600 Review

Personally, I wouldn't just limit myself to Kawasaki's. They make lovely bikes, but so do the others. What about a Suzuki SV650, or SV1000? How about the Suzuki GSXF750? (Yes GSXF not GSXR)...Or Honda CBR600F even? And this is only mentioning sportsbikes/sport-tourers.

Try getting various insurance quotes on various different models, and then take some test rides. At least your have some fun with test-rides and get to try out the various models around, even if you're not that interested. Keep an open mind. :D

Thanks for the replys... I've got a mate with a GSXR600 SRAD and he's offered to let me test ride it, and another one with a ZZR600 says I can take it for a spin... so I'm going to have a little go to see what I think. I do like also CBR600F I think there quite nice bikes, I really would like a full faired bike...

I shouldnt have any problems with 600 insurance, my friend with the SRAD is same age as me with no NCB and he is paying £500 TPTF.

I want something more comfortable for sure, (the 400 is crippling as I'm quite tall and that rear shock is rock solid... probably why I'm the only 17 year old with back problems!! :P ), and be perfect for a blast on a sunny day..

Insurance isn't as predictable as you like to think it is, you can't jusdge what somebody else's insurance will be! A man called Ste from Bikechatforums got insured at 17 with 1 yrs NCB on a TL1000S for £850 TPFT. It all depends where you live and stuff.

Myself 1 yrs NCB and 17 on a Bandit 600 £307 TPFT. If you shop around you CAN get good deals.

After a little enquiry, the ZX9R insurance will be about £800. That is if I go for a C1 or C2 model. The E model is £1000+.

I've had a little more thinking in it, I fancy a CBR600F, one that looks just like Jay's bike, thats the model I'd be interested in. Also still considering a Kawasaki ZX6R but it'd have the same shape as Milers.

The insurance then will be sub £500 for TPFT. I gave my insurance company a ring yesterday and that is what they quoted me, so shall be able to find it cheaper again..... hopefully..

TLS m8 still grp 15...so prices not that high...

but as I found out the hard way...soon as you get into superbike grp 16 and above the insurance anally rape you hard :(

TPFT can vary as well...some have £500 compulsory excess...oooo sting baby! LOL

It looks like the pile of parts on that TLS has the original rotary shock in it. Thats a god send having a new rear shock :)

I am tempted by a TLR or SP2 one day ;)
