Just come back from having a new rear tyre put on at AMS tyres. Top guy called Nigel served me, gave me a discount for being a fellow biker and scrubbed the top layer of varnish off the new tyre for me. Top guy, top place.

I wasnt aware there where any safe alternatives to bedding a new tire in other than some relatively gentle riding for a few tens of miles, and a bit of common sense (i.e not trying to knee down or break your rolling stoppie distance record on the way home from the tire fitters) .

Just to disprove Andrew... I do still visit the site (but rarely for the reasons he has said)
... and to prove again just how old I am....!

When I worked in World Endurance as pit-crew in the early nineties some of the riders used to ask me to remove the mould release fluid from the tyres if they had to head out on slicks on a damp/drying track; ... I used a product called "Silk Cleansing Fluid" from the printing industry and then I'd buff the surface once very lightly, with fine wet and dry.

I've tried it with road tyres once or twice, but you're right Jason, you still have to break-in the carcass and compound of a road tyre by riding progressively for 50 to 100 miles to prevent delamination.

ive used wet n dry on my slicks, just before a race just to give me the confidence into the first corner

I think he said he said salt rub or something like that, looked a bit like sand paper stuff, just so it isn't shiny as it was a wet day...

there is also a large ams in preston, paignton who do bike mots and while your waiting you can get a fabulous coffee and baguette from big baps just across the road. both very biker friendly

Those are the guys I always use these days. Always the best price etc and top service. They're now doing MOTS and chain and sprocket kits etc. Quite a few bikers work in there.

Yep another one for preston ams. Replaced both tyres in less than 25 minutes, although the tyres are rubbish service was good, very friendly guys.
Avoid avon roadrunners they suck.

A slight deviation from the thread title but I see you live in Brixahm, have you considered Brixham tyres? I've been using them for about 8yrs now, they're always competetively priced & give good, friendly service. It would probably be easier for you as they're probably just around the corner. Just a thought.

Cheers for the tip will try them next.
To be honest used ams because they are on the way to work, as tyres needed changing desperatly but couldn't get a day off. But i was happy with there service. Not so happy with the tyres.
