modifications

Post by chris_1127 »

following on from Gregs thread, just wondering what peoples thoughts on modifying their bikes are really - whether they go for form over function or otherwise. what would you say (in your opinion) were the top 3 mods on your bike you either have done, intend to do, or would be likely to given the money; and what 3 mods would you see as a complete waste of time and money? Or do you intend to keep it exactly as the factory intended :?

i'd say on mine the most useful would be:
1)upgrading to 17" wheels, allowed me to fit decent tyres
2)upgrading from spindly front forks with crappy anti-dive to more modern usd adjustable forks
3)i'd like to upgrade to a decent rear shock at some point in the near future

can't see myself ever adding:
1)carbon fibre yoke covers, heelguards, clock surrounds or similar stick-on bits
2)rim tapes
3)colour coded anodised bolt kits

The only mods so far on mine are Mini LED indicators and a Scorpion carbon fibre race pipe. These mods are purely astheatic. The only other mod in intend to carry out is to chop the rear fender and fit a tail tidy . I do not feel the need to start getting involved in anodised bolts etc as they are chav-tastic.

GSXR front end for better breaks and better USD forks

Ohlins shock cause the SV rear suspension is worse then the front

Micron full system, re-jetted, ignition advancer, Stage 1 cams, modified air filter, tank riser (all count as a breathing mod IMO)

I normally only go for mods that improve a problem area on the bike or make it easier to ride. Hence the scottoiler, mirror extenders.
I also have a scorpion can as it would be rude not to :D

The rad cover and LED rear light are things I probably wouldn't bother buying, but it was part of the deal at a bargain price so I had them.

I might get a hugger, NWS silver ghost, as it serves a purpose as well as looking good.

I would never spend money on something that increases performance as I don't need it. I think if you need more power buy a more powerful bike

All the stuff for breathing (goggles, air tank, respirator)

USD's

Highlevel exhaust pipe

Maybe carbon hugger etc

Or i might just leave it as it is, probably leave it.

Best value - Airbox mod (free), the TRE (free), thermostat mod (app. £20), or +/- coil mod (app. £5).
For comfort, the flat bars (app.£50)
For performance - +1/-1 gearing (£80), Yosh headers (£75 s/h) and carbon cans (£100 s/h), PCII (£90 s/h), TRE (see above), HEL braided hoses (£?), MH Racing modified rotary damper (can't afford Ohlins/Maxton/Bitubo  )
For looks - the TLR swingarm (app. £50), powdercoated wheels (£60), or undertray (£30)

It's all a question of personal taste really, some is practicality (bars, etc.,) some just makes the bike nicer to ride (suspension, PCII, TRE,....)and others more for looks than any performance gain (TLR s/arm, undertray,...) :D
Of all the things I have ever lost, I miss my mind the most .....

Ive stuck on a Scorpion can, cause I could, I like the noise  and who ever is behind me on Sunday will find out.
Came with a under tray, Plastic bits on the end of the Rad (Dont care what there called)
Would like a hugger.
Like Greg says Triumph come with the best bit fitted as standard. Fantastic brakes  , ajustable suspension what ever thats for  , dirt great tyres.

(Oh its not a sports bike, but I love it and cant keep off it)

Actually it is a sportsbike, just no fairing and tuned for torque not top end.
