dropped bike
kim managed to drop her bike at a junction the other day, no damage done but its been running rougher than a rough thing since.
it starts n stuff but just seems to spluttering a bit, is this just cos any rap in the system has been diturbed and is blocking things or something more sinister?
any advice would be greatly appreciated, ta.

depends reallly mate how hard it got dropped and what you mean about it splutters and stuf.
I have known float levels in the carb change from a hard drop which will make a big difference in the running. Even cause more probs then you say.
But then i have known the fairing to rub agaisnt the frame after a drop and make it feel like its running crap if you get my jist. Vibrating more then your used too.
Spluttering?? Is the bike any loader then it was?? Hit the exhaust??
An Exhaust leak between the head and the down pipes will cause a spluttering affect with out going into tooo much detail as to why it would.

it was dropped at a standstill (junction). bike went over and had a soft landing (kim). so no real impact at all, syptoms are fuel starvation, no pipes kinked or fouled.
have put fresh fuel in with a dose of redex.
gonna take it for a run tomorrow and see if that clears it.
might invest in some stabalisers for her

How old is the bike
Could be just rubbish/sludge/dirt that had been lying in the bottom of the fuel tank has been disturbed and got into the fuel lines / filter / carb. Drain the float bowl(s) into a glass jar and see what comes out - or if it's easy enough take 'em off and have a look inside
Oh, and it sounds like she did OK - at least she threw herself underneath it to minimise the damage, what more could be asked for

engine is still sweet funky, no need to drain oil. took it on ablast to jaspers this afternoon, kim still reckons its 'choking and spluttery' think she is gonna stick into SP tomorrow so its running sweet for the weekend. i think its just 5hit from the tank and carbs thats been disturbed. the bike is 13 yrs old and i reckon the carbs have never been touched so it probs needs a clean thru big time.

the carbs might have come out of or split the carb rubbers, or the airbox to carb joint may have come loose.
breather could be blocked...
is it bad high/ low revs full or part throttle?
Worth taking the tank off and having a look around.. might be something obvious..

what happens is that when the bike falls over is that fuel or oil get into the airbox/airfilter when its on its side and when you get it going again you have to clear it by running it or replacing the air filter
i got knocked of my bike and the engine ran on its side and filed the air filter with oil
smokin!
