well silly season is upon us

Post by roper »

I thought i would start a thread, as to be quite honest i couldn't believe what i saw this morning. I was going into town in the car and was queued at the traffic lights on the roundabout just up from the train station. As the lights turn green i notice in my mirrors a scooter, some what eratically trying to filter through the traffic. Now at this point i dont have a problem as this is the advantage of having a bike at queing time but when said man then decideds to start weaving in and out of traffic going round the roundabout and cutting me up in the process i do, i thought does he realise how much danger he's putting himself in, as it was lucky i knew he was around. What really made me cringe though was the fact this bloke was wearing a PINK t-shirt and shorts and oh yes for my first time ever FLIP FLOPS! well you might think if he comes off he's going to get seriouse gravel rash, but trust me it would'nt have hurt anywhere near as much as the BIGGEST bottle of Smirnoff i have ever seen that he was somehow holding in his hand being under him if he had come off. And he wasn't some young kid either he was a bloody big bloke who you would think would have some sort of sense to him. It's just such a shame all the bloody good blokes out there are the one's we're losing while idiots like this some how survive thats my rant over,l ets have this thread as an official twat watch thread and see how many idiots are actually out there. :x

It's not as uncommon as you might think, I've seen a few of the flip flop brigade out, though not with bottles of booze!

Yes I have seen the same type of thing today.

Saw a land on a 125 on "L" plates riding around with no gloves and worst of all NO shirt or nothing on his top half !

Also have seen the flip flop riders on mopeds as well !

I remember that with the hands. And had somebody in my village fall off a 125 with no gloves and scraped his hand but he wasnt going to fast so it wasnt to bad. Lucky I love all my kit so I gotta wear it 8) . But if your not wearing gloves and going 30mph...and slide on your hands for about 2 seconds...do you reacon it will just make your hand dissaper completly?

I totally agree...then we all go on holiday to Spain or somewhere, hire a moped and do exactly the same..

Apart from those really sensible people who never do anything daft..like working off a ladder with a power tool or using a chainsaw without protective gear etc..

we're humans, some of us are stupid whats new...

posted today by Mike Nye on Rd/RZ forum,
This morning i was taking my son football training, traveling the usual route I was overtaken by an rf900 carring a pillion both wearing shorts and a vest + helmet. Anyhow I was cringeing at the fact they had no protection when suddenly my white van man pulled out and clipped him! I recon he was doing a good 40-50mph at the time the pillion went airbourne while the rider slid under the bike. At first I didnt quite know what to do then instinct/training kicked in (for those who dont know im a Voluntary Paramedic with a newly formed RAF first response team!) I slapped on the hazzards and tol;d my son and his mate to stay put.
I have to admit there was lots of blood not nice at all, I first checked the rider lots of missing skin, deep shock, leg not where it should be and was missing the ends of 3 fingers the rest very badly scraped and battered. The young Asian guy was in deep shock but concious, breathing just pumping blood every where, Why is it the people like to just stand and stare? Luckly I got an old guy to maintain pressure and keep talking to the rider while i checked out his mate. His mate was fairly lucky not as much missing skin as he landed on the green bad friction burns + what looked like a bust wrist but he wasnt concious.....but breathing with heartbeat, so after doing the usual checks I stuck him in the recovery and went on to the white van man (irish fella) who had his Mrs and 2 kids with him they were all just very shook up! 5mins later the police shortly followed by an ambulance turned up. I handed over gave my statement etc ( my Son however missed his footy training).

Anyhoo Ive seen some bad things in the past but as a Biker this rung home!!! most of the injuries sustained would have been avoided if the personel on the bike had been in the right Kit! regardless of the temprature! Ive just got back from a heavy afternoon in my local trying to shake off some of the events (I wasnt even there to watch the football!).

Just thought I share this with you all, and tell you to wear the right kit. Tomorrow I have to write a detailed report both for my bosses and the police!

Ride well dressed and Safe people!

I have just returned home following a cracking run out here in Hants. Stopped off for a cuppa at the top of Portsdown Hill just outside Portsmouth.

Just as I was taking my first sips, an R1 pulls up and the lad riding it only had a pair of shorts, vest and trainers. I could not resist speaking to him about his lack of protective gear. His reply: "Got feck all to do with you mush" Cue much laughter from self and several other lads when a bloke blurted out "Ahhh, thats cool then seeing as you obviously have Kevlar skin you will be okay when you come off winker." :-)
