Hello people, i dont really use the site much but will aim to use it more, i wanted to post this in the hope that it saves any of you the heartache and hassle i have gone through with my bike and the insurance company and underwriters...
I had a spanking GSXR 750 K5 That was made in to a Rizla race rep. those that saw the bike in and around Plymouth would know that it was a gleaming peice of kit.
On the Mega Ride this year i attented and enjoted the event and seeing all the different bikes, however this was to prove a really eventfull day not to be forgotten.
For some reason my baby cooked the head gasket and cooked my block, that is what happens when Gt motorcycles do not connect your fans after a service, and your temp hits 141, "BANG"
I retired back to Jaspers in some what of a foul mood and after spending two days cleaning her. I left Jaspers and headed towards home via the Cattedown round about. Putting my hands up i had some bikers behind me and was showing off as i pulled away from the lights with plenty of throttle and yes Brand New Dragon Super Corsa's, You know what is coming next.......
Skid skid down the road she slides with me bouncing along for good measure(leathers included) Hardly much damage to the bodywork as the RG stuff did their job. The usual bent swinging arm, Smashed up Full Yoshimura Exhaust System that had been sold to Sonic(bless really sorry mate) broken rear sets and scuffs all over.
I got the bike home and reported it to my insurance Adrain Flux (Bike Sure) They at first were brilliant and arranged to send a insurance agent to inspect the bike and damage and allow repairs. I had all the quotes done and total damage was £5217.00, he was happy to have the bike repaired on the basics of what is called a cash in lieu payment allowing me to have a payment and get the repairs done myself.
I had the bike collected and taken to Harris where Tim there was brilliant, we agreed to have all the swinging arm replaced and do some further work to enhance the bike further and make it stand out even more.
Two weeks in to this no payment had come so i started to contact the Insurance to chase payment.
This was when they dropped the bombshell that my claim had been passed on to the Underwriters ENSIGN, they were indispute about the mods to my bike and my milage.
Various calls took place and letters exchanged, they informed me that i had not told them of all my mods, even though i had reported the mods to Adrian Flux @ bike sure who had it on file. Then they refused to pay out on this basics and owing to the fact that i had exceeded my mileage by 4k. This was a bombshell as i did not know i was on one, I pay £1600.00 to insure my baby and paid this policy outright( BIG MISTAKE)
At this point i was foaming at the mouth and ready to blow my top. I was able to show the underwriters that i had disclosed the mods but they stuck to the grounds and cancelled my policy as if they had been made aware of the mods they would not of covered the machine.
And also due to the fact of the mileage i was null and void so i was left having to raise the 6k to pay for the repairs to my girl. I am in the process of taking the insurance through the Fininacial Ombudsman, who have been great in helping me, but this does not help me in having my baby back for the summer. To add further insult to injury they wont refund my policy back either on pro rota.
I am asking the people that read this to please check their insurance and the small print as they have used there skill to avoid paying me out. I have endured real pain and heartache and shed a tear or two in complete frustration to these GIANTS that play [Censored] god.
So people make sure they know of your mods even nuts and bolts else they can refuse to pay out. I would say 99% of insurance companies are fair and play ball. I was unlucky, but i hope by reading this you take note and dont suffer.
On the good part my baby is being repaired after i have sold all i own to raise the cash, inc my mum.lol. She will be back bigger and better and NOT A RIZLA, something unique, so keep posted.
Kind Regards
Gareth(aka rizladude)
