TRE was worth it on my SRAD 750 Inj, smoothed it out when going from off to on throttle. Had it out a few months ago to check something and it felt worse out (but then again my valve clearances were fecked at the time)

TRE definitely helped my TL
Smoother at the bottom on light throttle, better drive, and feels more urgent. Different bikes take to 'em in different ways, and some on the market really are "pants"
One chap I know bought one for a TL on e-bay that turned out to be a box with a wire running in one side and straight back out again
They are very simple to make if you know how - in most cases it's just a simple 3 leg transistor thats needed and a little bit of wire
Here's one for the TL

Im surprised that you lot found that it smoothed it out.
the reason the slightly retarded timing in the first couple of gears is there in the first place is to make the first couple of gears smoother and easier to manage (in theory).
All the Tre does is fool the bike into thinking its in top gear all the time thus removing the very slightly off timing in 1st and 2nd. (on a GSXR anyway not sure about its effect on a TL)
The net effect of this is that allegedly you should notice the bike has a tiny bit more punch in those early gears- but it shouldnt feel smoother it should feel more snatchy if anything and the difference is very slight.
I got the two I have used on a couple of my GSXRs from Gixxer.com cost about £18 with shipping.

The TRE was put in to get the bike through european noise legislation, so theoretically it should free up some power. I noticed a slight difference on the SV in 2nd but not much in first.
