There's long term bikers (does simply holding the licence without riding alot count?), and then there are dedicated bikers. There is a difference, I see lasses on here going all out for a solution to get a rat-bike on the road. That's not vain, shallow or even a whim. That's a biker.

I suggest you wind your neck in andyals, and leave your prejudgements in the cloakroom before posting.

That's the pits as far as I'm concerned.

I got into an argument once in Paignton with some prick who suggested that giving up biking after becoming a parent was the responsible thing to do, implying that I was an irresponsible person for having bikes, as well as all the trappings of domestic life - ie marriage, mortgage, kids etc.

I personally cannot understand the mentality of someone who claims to be passionate about bikes, but then gives up for 20 years, comes back, and says, "yeah but I've always been a biker at heart"

Born agains are the worst kind of biker, and to add to it, they are responsible for most of the accidents on our roads.

If you don't believe me, next time you're at Paignton, have a word with one of the nice ladies on the bike safe stand, who's job it is to analyse the stats.

Now someone tell me that continuing to ride after having a family was the act of a very irresponsible parent.

Hate to say it but your full of sh*te
I've been around bikes far longer than you have & I can introduce you to female riders who have been riding for as long as I have. A couple of them work as Instructors so are on their bikes all day for 5 -6 days a week.
Lots of people have to give up the bike for a while when they become parents. Sticking a baby on the pillion is not exactly clever & finances are often very stretched making a bike very impractical.
I get quite a few who are coming back into biking after such a layoff coming along for a refresher course & they soon get back into it & show they have not lost it. This is particularly true of the girls.
Blokes coming back to bikes seem to think they are still as good as they ever were & tend to be the one's getting into trouble.
Whatever the reason people get into bikes what really matters is that they enjoy it & ride to their ability for however long they decide to stay with it.
It's knobheads with attitudes like yours that have a tendancy to ruin it for everyone else

Why did i not have a bike for 16 years. simple my job, life style, oh and later on my accident ( unloading my artic at work before you think it was on a bike) made it not an option to have a bike just for it to sit in the garage most of the time just so I could call myself a REAL biker and as far as the accident rate goes if you have passed as many driving test in as many different vehicles as I have you can comment. unless you are of course qualified to drive any type and variation of vehicle on the road

Stats can be and are arranged to show what ever the goverment want them to be, look at the ones that showed that most bikes weren't taxed. You don't thisk that the 'nice lady' was just telling you what you wanted to hear cos of your "i'm a real biker" attitude?

And what got me back on a bike. Life!! Life changes all the time, My kids are older, I have a different job which allows me the time to have a bike for the commute to work and to have fun on at all speeds and different ride outs. I can ride fast on my own on some ride outs and then take my 10 year old son on the back on the slower paced ride outs. Thats the difference.

What bike do you ride? I take it you do ride one, all year round of course cos your a REAL biker but then so would I be!

Only 1 minor accident in 21 years of riding / driving so that makes me better than you

I have recently moved to Plymouth having lived in the London area since I was 18, 27 years ago (I'm from Exeter originally).

Up there I was on the bike all the time, commuting in the smoke daily and doing all the other riding about stuff we all do on sunny weekends.

I don't commute anymore, and ride only for pleasure now and need a portfolio of rides that I can do ranging from short blasts, to afternoon jaunts further afield.

BUT andy REAL bikers use their bikes ALL the time Your nothing but a fair weather rider
