Mini Moto advice needed please

I know some of you have recently bought a mini moto. Well, even tho Im a fat git, Ive decided to buy a mini moto for a few laughs. Thing is, I dont know the first thing about them. So any help would be appreciated. For example, a shop in Plymouth sells them from £175, what is a good one and bad one and what to look for? Are they all the same engines or not? Where can I legally use one? What spares will I need?

Cheap ones are a mixed bag, Normally they break very quickly. Whether this is mainly due to misuse by the owners I dont know. You get what you pay I guess, But if it's just a toy then spending £600-£1000 on one doesnt seem right... It can be a tough choice

Anyway, Mines a Blata 3.4, It cost about £550. So it's built very well. Theres loads of these cheapo ones down the local park and ride, They either spend ages trying to start them or dont even ride it because something expensive has broken.

A new shop has just opened in Plymouth, selling them £179 and the guy seems to know his stuff. Ive bought a 49cc one for £219 which includes all the setting up and a guarantee!!!
Pick it up on Saturday and cant wait. One of my neighbours moans everytime I start up my bike, wait till she heres this start and then sees me wizzing out of the garage...Im going to piss mys elf

mines a 49cc mitsubishi chainsaw engine i think. definatly sounds like one. lol

parts are generally very cheap if you can source a good place to get them from. luckily i have, ive been using mine in a quiet insdustrial estate at night, put anywhere which is private land is fine.

your best bet if u want to use it regularly is contact a shop with a private carpark (closed on sunday etc) and get them to write you written permission to be using it, then youcan tel the police to sod off if they turn up..

(Dont literally tel them to sod off your you could land yourself in more trouble) lol

Well I'm going down the Exeter Sowton Park and ride tonight about 6:30pm probably, Should pop down and give it a thrash

It was funny you mention setting up, Because Bridge charge an extra £50 or something to 'setup' the bikes, My bike came directly from a mailorder place, All the needed 'setting up' was the handles bars that needed twisting. Oh dear.

lol, yeah mine came out of a crate and all that needed setting up was the handlebars and the footpegs.

Problem is that around here at the moment there isnt any proper tracks... I was thinking about the karting place in Exeter, But I remember thinking the surface was poor even for the gokarts!

Closest place is a Gokarting place in Cheddar, But thats quite a trek.

fun there though, i have done karting there and it seems a good track for it...my bro actually did mini motoing there and said it was great, only problem for me is the cost of these places, although i wonder how much it would be with your own mini moton...hmm tempting

(and cheddars only 30mins, maybe a bit more away!)

I've just ordered one for my boy for Christmas. has anyone got any new ideas on where I should take him on it.

Probably too late but what about an Oset Trials bike.

They're electric, no noise, can be carried in estate car with no spillage worries and can be used almost on any bit of land as no noise etc.

Camborne Redruth motor club are running quite a successful series for kids.

I watched the Oset trials bikes in their demo area at the GP this year, the kids riding them were having a great time. Good suggestion by Graham, far less antisocial and the chances are that a youngster will pick it up and start competing, much less likely to hurt themselves doing this and won't be featured on the local news getting picked up by the old bill and having their bike confiscated and crushed.

I remember taking my Mini Moto to Raceworld (before the bridge)
Not the best surface, and when someone's coolant poured over the 'racing line' I was able to 'slide' the little thing under my arse. Great fun until I highsided. Yes HIGHSIDED, and had to explain to my boss why I couldn't come to work the next day as I thought I had torn myself a new arsehole!

This was a cheap ebay 39cc but was quick enough for messing about.
