I have bought a new chain and sprocket set for the bike and not being very mechanically minded thought the best thing to do would be to get it fitted by someone who knows what they are doing.

Anyway, I have just been to my local reputable Honda garage to ask how much they will charge and they have refused to touch it

When I asked why he said it was because its an import. Whats that all about then.

Well, balls to him, i'm gonna do it myself now. Anyone down Southampton way fancy giving me a hand

Hi sorry not able to give you much help as I'm here in sunny Plymouth. If you do go down the road of fitting your own chain/sprocket you will need to have a chain spliter to open up the old/new chain.
Just make sure you got all the tools before you start. As for the fact it's an import that should make no diffrerents. I'd shop around for some local garage.

Cheers for that. I have just been talking to a guy on another forum who was saying that unfortunately some dealers still believe that if they service imports then Honda will no longer supply them with new bikes/parts etc etc and they lose their franchise.

Aparently this was the case for Subaru when the impreza was first imported.

Anyway, I have found a garage close to where I work that will do it for me on Tuesday as I don't have the tools nor the confidence to mees about with the wheels.

Glad to be of some help, it's a job only if you feel confidante because of what can go wrong if comes off a wraps around your back wheel. That's bad at any speed.

Thats stupid, my dad has the same problem with his 98' Impreza Turbo, not dealer will touch it.

Make sure also to have all of the torque settings for sprocket nuts, they have little clips to stop them spinning but you dont want them coming off! See if you can borrow a chain tool from someone, there not the most expensive thing in the world but saves you buying something you'll hardly use. I did my own chain and sprocket on ZXR400, 30 min job .

I really would get a garage to do it, I know how to but I feel much better with a garage doing it, a local one here only charged me £17.50! I just wanted to make sure the chain was fitted well as when they come off they tend to cause alot of damage

I had the chain and sprokets fitted on Tuesday by a local garage as I really didnt fancy trying the job myself.

They did a great job so I'm taking it back for a full service next month.

you dont need a chain splitter, use needle nose plyers.
