Make your own cider in a week.

Post by Blimey »

Been making my own Red wine for a few months now and its is gorgeous. But now it is gettin too easy and i want to create my own stuff. The prob is havin to leave it to mature for months. But i have got a way of making your own cider and ready to drink in a week.

4 lts of pure apply juice. Cheaper the better

1 tsp of yeast. (can even use bread, wine, all purpose, beer yeast. loads on the market but an all purpose or wine yeast is best)

1 lb sugar. (now you don't need sugar as there is enough in the apple juice but if you want it sweeter and even stronger % alc then add sugar to your likeing)

EVERY THING NEEDS TO BE STERRALISED

Put all ingredients into a bucket or demijar and try keep tightly covered in a warm area 20/25 degrees. If you can put a lid on it with an airlock even better. But this is to stop gettin a bug into it.

Watch it bubble away for a few days. Give a shake and leave a bit longer till all the bubbling stops. Then bottle it and drink the stuff.

It is recommeded to leave outside in a shed in a cool area which will help it clear. But you don't need to look at it whilst drinking it do you.

What ever you do, dont bottle it unless you want an explosion on your hands. Did this when I was 15 & made a few holes in the ceiling from exploding bottle caps in the night........

1 kg (2lb 3 oz) will be too much prob for cider.

In a gallon this would produce a dry wine.

1.360 kg (3 lb) would make a sweet wine but that would be the max amount of sugar you could use.

The yeast mixed with sugary solution converts it roughly half to alcohol % and half to carbon dioxide.

Apple juice or any concentrated juice has sugar in it already but you can add more to sweeten the final drink and make it more alcohol %.

Trial and error.

Like mentioned. MAKE SURE ALL FERMENTING (bubbling) HAS STOPPED BEFORE BOTTLING. AND IF POSS KEEP IN A COOL PLACE AFTER BOTTLING AS IT COULD START FERMENTING AGAIN (bubbling) CAUSING EXPLOSSIONS BECAUSE OF THE CARBON DIOXIDE PRODUCED.

Its bleedin easy. Some times people have probs with the fermenting stopping before finishing its job. Giive it a good shake and add more yeast if it needs it.

Temp 20/25 degrees above 30 degrees can kill the yeast below 20 degress may take longer to ferment.

Add cranberrie juice or even orange for a laugh. Honey goes well with cider.

Going out in spring and picking dandylions for my next project.

DANDYLION WINE Ummmmm

Not sure what else to say really just get JARRED

I think it will be about 6 % but i have found a 32 page thread on what is called ----- wait for it

TURBO CIDER

Which is the same recipe i have given on here. Any probs or Q's can be found on this thread. Have a read as its really interesting on what people have made doing it this quick, easy and cheap way.

Don't be put of by the long names and funny terms people have used. Just that they are experienced wine makers some of them and are trying to perfect it too much.
