'allo there chaps/ladies,

I've been lurking here for quite some time now, and my itching to get a bike gets worse by the day. To the point I can't fall asleep. Anyhow, I've sent off for my provisional and am now flogging all of my valuable possessions on eBay in the hope that I can save up the rest so that I can get myself a GSXR 600 or a ZX6R.

Aside from that I've been trying to find this out for a while and so far my searches have turned up nothing; are there any hourly lessons when it comes to learning on a bike?

I've sent off for my provisional and am awaiting it's return, once I get that I'm going straight for my CBT and doing my theory. After that I can't afford to buy a bike to ride around on to get experience for my test, nor can I afford to take an intensive course. So I am wondering what the best way of passing my test would be, and if anyone could recommend some places in Exeter I will gladly buy you a pint when I've got my bike.

If you cant afford a bike, have you thought about getting a moped after you've passed your test? you'll be surprised how cheap you can pick one up and you'll still be getting valuable road experience.
Theres no shame in 'em either, a lot of us started out on the humble ped

I think bike lessons are normally by the 1/2 or whole day not the hour as with cars. If you're hard up, you'd be better to ride a 125 on L plates, and get some experience while you save your pennies IMHO. I do know someone who was taught by a friend who'd recently passed their test and it worked, they passed without lessons. Too long ago for me to remember though.

BSW in Exeter (or Triumph/Think Motorcycle as I think they now are) hire out their 125s is you do your CBT with them. Kim's sister hired one for a weekend, and it cost about £20, including insurance.

Get on the road and get riding. You can ride the 125 for up to two years whilst you save for the test and bigger bike, but the key thing is you're getting riding experience on the road - worth far more than saving and relying on getting all your road skill/sense in a week of intensive training

I will be able to afford a bike after my test, I just can't afford one now. Don't ask how that works. And I think I'll go with renting out 125's from the place billinom8s suggested. As for getting a 'ped after my license - I'm the type that won't be seen on one of those unless I had a gun to my head.

And that is exactly why.

lots of people these days go straight into big bikes and never know the fun or experince the learning curve of riding smaller bikes and progressing naturally towards bigger more powerful machines.

Like superpower hinted at, riding the smaller bikes gives u a big grin but also bring u into the 2 wheeled world at a safer pace.

As u are going in on the 600 level i would suggest that any advice would be worth taking on board. Or just swing it and learn as u go.

my dad will be selling his honda xr125cc very shortly as he is doing his test this week and buying a "big bike" that is a proper 1 down 4 up geard bike, no ped! so if your interested let me know!

Do your CBT.

Get a used 125cc and ride until you can afford to take your test.

125cc are good fun and we have all been there. I managed to get to test standard by just riding for 6 months with L plate and need a days training before my test.

That is the cheapest way to get into bikes.

A 600cc sports bike costs lots to insure and run and if you can't afford basic motorbikes stuff then you probably won't be able to afford the sports bike. You will get it one day!!
