Membership money?

Post by Mike Daytona600 »

I am a tight git so I like to know what happens to any money I spend. So my question is if SWB makes more money from membership than is needed to pay for the site, competitions, stickers, discounts, and events etc, maybe staff aswell, what happens to the extra. Does it go to charity or is someone making a bit out of it. If they are then fair play. I am in no way having any sort of dig, just would like to know.

I am sure there are others wondering the same thing which is why I've asked as a post, not a pm.

Oh and I'll be paying my membership no matter.

Thanks for supplying an ace site, keep up the good work. :D

Mike, I think you'll find that as you say the site, stickers, admin etc eats most monies taken...
As for any leftovers... I really do doubt that there is any...

Due to the fact that, unlike you, a lot of people who post / visit on this site don't bother becoming paid up members.

Fair question though, and stand up of you to ask...

Do you know how much it costs to run a site like this?

I bet membership from 75% of members doesn't even cover it.

Dave has somewhere on this site a full accounts list.

Tried to find it, but it is going back a while.

Ask Dave to post it up again.

I do know thou Mike, membership doesnt cover the costs of running the site, as Nick said, to many just dont pay.

personally I think the whole site should be a members only site, but thats my opinion. :?

i'd say that most of the regular users had actually paid this year, but there are a number that paid that are no longer visiting.

Thanks guys for the replys. Jon asked if I know how much it costs to run a sight. I don't, that's why I put if SWB makes more money from membership than is needed. I hope you didn't mind me asking.

I've already told Speedy before I started this topic that I'll be paying mine at the pub on Tuesday.

I have put a poster up at work (Taylors Motorcycles) because although I have only been on one ride with you guys I have become a bit of a forum addict, ask my Mrs  , and want to help get more people on, cos it's f'in great :D

I hope the site isn't running at a loss cos that would be a real shame.

Thanks again to the staff and hopefully see you on Tuesday.

Most members have upped thier payments to the site this year. This as we all know is needed as Dave does work very hard at trying to keep on top of it and i ain't got a clue what costs are involved so i ain't even going to bother to go down that road.

My only gripe i do have is the same one that is always brought up and i myself is guilty of this there ain't enough bike talk.

I love the friendlyness and help that is ready available but if it wasn't for these things i don't think the site would carry on.

I use other sites as well but i tend to use this one more for the local friendly helpful just around the corner mates for a chit chat and a bit of banter and of course the cheap track day that Speedy does a great job of offering.

Over the last 12 months it just seems to be dying and if we wearn't so local and close nit we wouldn't be here.

Anyhow sorry to trouble you and what was you questioned again Mike

I haven't looked at balancing the accounts for a while (I know I should start soon).

When we had site problems about a year and a half ago, I was advised to run a dedicated server to host the website, this ended up by costing about £45 per month.

So the site does owe me a shed load money, but I usually write this off anyway and any membership money get's put in a tin. So that we can use it for stickers/shows/prizes etc..

I will be getting a big batch of stickers soon (mainly white) as I still have a few coloured ones left which no one seems to want.

Hope this explains it a little better

Speedy, How come your name is not in this list of members?
(There are a few others missing also, me thinks!)

I've done a text file up of the SWB accounts, & I'll try & keep it updated regulary.

To view the file you'll need to right click the link & select 'Save Target As'
