Look in here for local ride outs...

Forum rules
You are of course welcome along to any Southwestbikers rideout, however your bike must be in good mechanical order (we don’t want anything falling off of it including you), taxed and have a current MOT. You must have a valid motorcycle licence and current motor insurance. You are in charge of your motorcycle at all times and SWB will not accept any responsibility for actions you take or any accidents you may have. Always ride within your own capabilities and do not put others at risk. Remember, while you are on a Southwestbikers rideout you are representing the site and what it stands for.
Thank-you.

Don't forget......ANYONE can organise and run a rideout.

Thats what I was thinking Gav, you just have to look at how many times the brake light comes on of the bike in front and where he gets on the power and in a few places, blatant panic braking especially towards the end.

Seriously Ricky-t get your noobie ass on some group rides, there are plenty of people locally (including me) willing to push you a little more and in the end that is how you'll improve. Don't wait til march for gods sake, if it's dry light it fly!

Believe me, it is all too easy to ride alone and think you're pushing it, I was like that for a while til I started doing regular(?) ride outs and that improved my riding no end, still is. I ride all year and do alot of riding alone and it is refreshing to get on a group ride now and then to blow out the cobwebs.

With regards to the summer ride out, start in the slow group and sneak off with the next group up when we stop if you find it a bit easy. Thats what tends to happen!

Ride slower than as fast as you can, then fingers crossed you get to ride a lot! :D Chose a group that you think is right for you, ride within your capabilities and have a good day 8) . Nobody will be wanting to pick you ( or anyone else )out of the hedge  !!

Ride safe.

Hi funky,

Thanks for the comment and you're probably right about riding more. However, I am at uni until middle of march.

When I am up here I use the pedal bike, I'll post a picture of it sometime. Last term I was riding it too fast along Oxford high street and went to brake quickly and snapped both rear and front brake cables. For two weeks I was riding around without any brakes - it was quite scary at first but it makes you ride predicting traffic. I have fixed them now after a crash into a bus.

Apparently, riding with as little brakes as possible makes better riding as generally you will be more smooth.

Pedal bikes are much quicker here due to traffic!

I will so be doing a rideout when I get back.
Blue Sv650s Curvey - Now unrestricted but starting to find the suspension a problem.
Next bike: CBR600RR eventually.

You know you're the only one for me Bam Bam, don't get jealous.

Pulled by the police for speeding on the way to a slow ride out...could only happen to me!

Like simon says, maybe start off in the medium/fast group and if things get a little hairy pull back to the next group as and when they catch up.

If your average riding pace is like that vid, trust me, forget the Real Fast Boys in group 5 as they will leave you standing.

Peeps like Age and Jason start pulling wheelies at a 100 + mph.

Oh and Si, you didnt hi-jack my thread, you started a new one I think

Not wanting to be a spoilsport or chuck a fly in the ointment I think there is something that need to be considered.

if you turn it into a charty ride then you might as well disband the faster groups as if you are promototing it as a charity ride no one should be riding on the wrong side of the law. Wheelying past lines of cars is definately out (and if you cant do that what is the point of even getting your bike out of the garage :) ) as are some of the speeds that some people on this forum ride at most of the time.

Also once you pitch it as a charity ride and start opening it up to get as many people as possible you are going to get to the point where it is going to disrupt other traffic and you may well find yourself requiring some sort of police involvement....

Not being a humbug, just saying the ride should be one thing or the other - a charity ride or a ride which needs and tolerates group 5 antics.

the question is which do you lot want to do?
