Help with SP1 problem

Hi All,

Does anyone on here have, or know of someone who has an SP1?

I have just finished a rebuild of mine, and now I'm at the stage of starting it for the first time in three years and it seems to have an ECU fault. Really frustrating as it was running before it was taken off the road and stripped.

The fault appears to be an earth fault on the injector drivers, but before I bin the ECU or shell out for another I want to be 100% sure it is the ECU.

I am hoping someone in Cornwall or Devon will let me plug my ECU into their bike, and see if the same fault appears on their know good running bike. If it does then I am into a new ECU, if it runs then I will have to go back to the drawing board and look elsewhere.

Any help much appreciated.

only ever known one guy with an sp1, he sold it a couple years back.

dynamight wasn't able to help, but thanks for the suggestion.

Fingers crossed, I have managed to pick up an ECU that had been miss listed on Ebay for £85 (correct part number).

Should be with me midweek, once I have proved the old ECU dead, I am going to pull it apart and find what went wrong in it; my instinct says leaking capacitors. Common issue with older ECU's, used to repair hundreds of car ECU's because of capacitors leaking electrolyte over the board. Would explain the earth leak on all injector outputs.

Not looking forward to the Honda one though, as it is set in gel and looks to be a nightmare to get apart.

Will be worth the effort if it is capacitors.

IT'S ALIVE!

Still not really sure what it was, but after stripping and cleaning every connector, testing and re-testing every component, checking and re-checking everything over and over it finally started.

A bit annoying really as it would have been nice to get a definitive answer as to what was wrong, but I guess standing for so long didn't help.

Now to get the MOT sorted, and start wearing my nice new tyres out.

To be honest cleaning and stripping every connector was probably the solution to the problem, it may have been a lose earth connection etc.

Good news either way, now get that MOT!!

Wish it were that simple, but it still wouldn't start after everything had been stripped/cleaned, and to be honest the connectors were all mint condition.

Important thing is it's running, and starts every time at the push of the button, but a definitive answer would have been useful.
