Good to see it's been given the initial go-ahead:

Interesting to see Jonathon Palmer raising his concerns, easy to say he's not wanting the competition but seeing how he's turned around the circuits within his group his company obviously know the business well.

I've already raced there! Used to be a hill climb venue at Tredegar on some reclaimed coal land. There wasn't much else there other than a then new watersports complex built in a flooded quarry. Good luck to all involved.

It'll be fantastic if it does materialise. My personal feeling is that as it says in the report "A white Elephant".
Actually on the fence a bit though as imagine if they were to develop such a site on Dartmoor... A bit NIMBY but I know I wouldn't be a fan.

If it is developed though, I will go there though. Does that make me a hypocrite?? :?

Don't care who you are, how much you have, how powerful you are. You still sit on the toilet with your pants around your ankles. Yep, it's a level playing field..

That part of Wales is certainly not Dartmoor, very much slagheaps & coal waste rather than granite & heather.

Bit like having a circuit in the clay tips near St Austell.

In fairness Graham, not sure when you were last up the top of the valleys, but it's a lot better now than it used to be - nature has done a lot of good reclamation in the last 15-20yrs!!

To be honest, I can't see what issue there would be with having such a development off the edge of Dartmoor anyway (as opposed to plonked in the centre) - think of the scars quarries and pits create at Meldon, Merrivale, Cornwood, etc., along with the hulk that is the prison, and the mast above Princetown and no-one complains about them.

Vehicle circuits, like many such facilities as horse racing tracks, (leisure) airfields, old railways, etc., can actually provide very good and manageable wildlife habitats - and nature looks after itself far better than many "eco" campaigners give it credit for. I can think of several locations where there are thriving habitats in SSSI's that receive no special attention at all (converse to what is expected....). I remember one instance where someone asked to inspect one of the SSSI's on our area (Falmouth Dock Station) - when we visited she was impressed at how the "Prostate Toadflax" (small yellow flower) was thriving and asked what management plan we had in place to manage it so well, to which we answered "nothing at all, it gets cut back with a brush-cutter and sprayed with weed-killer just the same as everywhere else ....... "

My only concern with the circuit would be weather related - it's breezy on a good day, and rather unforgiving at times .....
