locating a fuse

Post by triumph_taz »

I have a Datatool alarm which is meant to flash the indicators when the alarm is armed/disarmed. This has never worled since I have owned the bike but I was never bothered as it didn't effect the operation of the alarm.

As I may be selling the bike in the near future I would like to get this sorted. I presume the main fuse for the alarm has gone, but I have no idea how to go about finding it. Apparently, the location of the fuse is decided by the installer when the alarm is fitted to the loom.

If anyone has any suggestions, I will be happy to hear them.

Cheers

if the alarm works then it isn't likely to be the main fuse.

IMHO More like the LED wiring, try checking that first

The LED light has a separate socket off the loom and is working fine. I may be wrong about the main fuse, but I seem to remember checking it our a while ago and I am sure it was caused by a fuse going somewhere. The indicators work as normal so I am sure it is a fure in the wiring from the alarm to the indicators.

You'll probably find it between the indicators and the alarm then!

Well yes..... but apparently to disgiuse the wiring for the alarm they tend to be put in non-standard places. I presume there must be something going from the alarm to the flasher unit for the indicators, but as wiring is not my forte, I probably wouldn't be able to spot it if it blew up in my face!!!!

humor getting the better of me. Sorry.

don't know much about alarms. But just follow the wires, note the colour on the outside to make it easy, and if there is a fuse you should spot it.

I have the installation guide for datatool alarm cat 3 if u want to borrow it.

it sounds like the link between the indicators and the system has broke or the soilder joint was crap in the first place! OR possibly never connected!

must warn you that all the cables are all black with no identification so steady how you go or you could be stuck with a dissabled bike like i was!!!!!

Let me know if you want to borrow the book. give me a text on 07980678159

I had the same snag on my datatool sys 3, except that mine was set to auto arm, meaning that because the alarm thought it was being tampered with (like one of gary glitters love children  ) it would go off all the time. the only way i could stop it was to leave the ignition on   (not too bad living on the naval base, wouldn't recommend it if you live in the prospects  ).

The main fuse for the alarm had ruptured, not too bad on an R6 as its located in the ancillary fuse space on the main fuse block, apparently this was due to my aftermarket indicators. I replaced the fuse and touch wood its been fine ever since (at least the engine still works on my bike :P ).

If you've still got the certificatre of installation you could contact the person who inserted it  and find out where the fuse is.
