tw jason keep an eye on the official ring website as the opening dates can change - its unusual for them to be published this early they normally don't come out till feb/march.

Not sure if i'll be doing a truip this year but i am going to try.

Anyone looking to go I would recommend looking at Ben loevjoys site and at http://www.northloop.co.uk. As for hotels the Union Hotel in Cochem has always treated us brilliantly but theres also a place called sliders guesthouse that is run by a bloke called bren (he's on the northloop site). This guy can lap the ring quicker than anyone i've seen so staying there could be good for a few pointers.

Jak wrt exhausts i would be careful, altho as cv points out if you a gentle with the throttle at the car park/gate area you should be ok they do spot checksand have some marshal around the track.......just remember its a long way to go to be turned away cause of your exhaust, personally i wouldn't risk it (at least take a removable baffle with u just in case).
so it turns out.........sometime i do give a f*ck

We stayed at sliders last year - great place to stay and very well priced. Went out for a chinese with Bren and his other half suze (who aint slow either) ended up getting very pissed with them after it descended into a late night drinking session. Damm did I have a hangover the next day.

Anyway hes a nice bloke and althoughs he is pretty damm quick he isnt full of himself and doesnt constantly whittle on about motorcycles....which is a blessing; one thing you (or we did anyway) tire of very quickly after a couple days hanging around the nurburgring is people having a tendancy to talk about nothing other than bikes.

Stay at the Hotel de Nordshleife (or whatever its called) the view of the track (when you aren't allowed on it!) is fantastic!

Going in June again but haven't decided if i'm going on the bike or in the car as it is great using both!

well we got there, it was dry.

Managed to get down to a sub 8:17 bridge to gantry lap before I took the stopwatch off for fear off getting carried away.

I was pretty happy with that especially considering there was a load of traffic around. f ucking good fun messing about with the faster cars.

I actually thought it got easier the quicker you went, its intimidating as hell when you first go out with all the fast cars and bikes swallowing you up.

Once I got below 8:30 I stopped getting cars overtaking me, and you just get the occasional quick bike blasting past so you dont have to concern yourself much with whats behind you.

The problem the fast cars have is that they really arent that quick on the straight in comparison to a modern litre bike. The better driven porsches will brake later and probably keep slightly more mid corner speed but they come backwards towards you accelerating out of the corner.

I shall be looking for a Sub 8 next visit. I found I suddenly knocked a load of time of once I got the nerve to go over the couple of blind crests without easing off to drastically. (with the exception of the Ardenau forest one obviously!!)

saw about 4 bikes crashed (none looked to major) and probably half a dozen car crashes.

the place is a definate model of german efficiency - you could die there and they would have you carted away and the track reopened and be taking money again an hour later with no one any the wiser.

Glad you had a successful trip. Couple of us are gearing up for a return next year.
Will be staying with Bren on one of his organised weeks with some of the London lads we met last time (25 blokes without the other halves….).

Been reading that 911’s have been a problem for bikes when they dump the coolant in one dose

why the hell would anyone bring their other half to the nurburgring :? :) We bumped into that Bren on the sunday and went for a lap with him early on in the day.

after the ring we drove down to croatia and down the dalmation coast to Split. Tried to get across the bosnian border to get to Sarajevo and then Belgrade in Serbia but got turned away by the border guards for not having the right paperwork. Quite an intimidating moment, at one point we had visions of getting our bikes impounded.

did Nurburgring, Munich then Lake garda for a couple of days, then senj (croatia) then split for a couple days then zagreb then onto budapest then back into slovakia to Bratislava (very weird place) then Linz in Austria then strasbourg then Arras. 4300 miles all in, in 16 days.
