New lock or key for garage metal cabinet
Hi All.
There is a metal cabinet in our garage that has a lock but we have no key for it.
We can open the door as the mechanism is locked but the door is ajar.
Anyone know how to get a key or fix a new lock on it?
Cheers!

Re: New lock or key for garage metal cabinet
If the rear of the locking mechanism is as accessible as it looks from pic #3, and if that lock centre can be unscrewed or otherwise disconnected in some way, I'd pop off the two spring clips, disconnect aforementioned lock centre, unscrew the two Phillips (or PZ) screws and push out the lock barrel. That's the theory, but we know what that means - it's only a theory
. Good luck.

The key pattern number is often stamped on the mechanism somewhere, maybe even on the front.

It's right there on the front, looks like DE232.
I'm guessing if you took that to an old school locksmith they might know how to get the key to fit that, or have a blank that they can cut to the pattern.
Got to be worth a shot??

I agree with Jugs, it looks like DE232, or possibly DE282 and going down the replacement key route would be favourite.
If that won't work - is that the eye end of a circlip I can see in last pic'? If so, then releasing it looks like you'll be able to then seperate the lever arm mechanism which may in turn enable you to get to, and seperate, the lock barrel from the rest of the handle body.

Re: New lock or key for garage metal cabinet
If you can get the barrel out then any similar type of key can be used, just modify the key and the slides, it takes a bit of time but doesn't cost anything. Obviously if key is cheap then no problem. If u can get a blank key then you can make it fit.
