Sharing Routes

Look in here for local ride outs...

Forum rules
You are of course welcome along to any Southwestbikers rideout, however your bike must be in good mechanical order (we don’t want anything falling off of it including you), taxed and have a current MOT. You must have a valid motorcycle licence and current motor insurance. You are in charge of your motorcycle at all times and SWB will not accept any responsibility for actions you take or any accidents you may have. Always ride within your own capabilities and do not put others at risk. Remember, while you are on a Southwestbikers rideout you are representing the site and what it stands for.
Thank-you.

Don't forget......ANYONE can organise and run a rideout.

Sharing Routes

Post by DaveH »

Group riding is out while we are in lockdown so I was wondering if we could perhaps share good routes with each other for our own rides. Anyone have anything? I have satnav/gps .GPX files of a couple of past SWB rideouts that I’m happy to pass on if kanyone wants them.

Hi all, you could try googling "best motorcycle roads Devon". Will give you plenty of graded routes in the Southwest.
Personal favourite B3137 Tivvy to S Molton via Nomansland ,Witheridge etc. How about everyone tell us their own favourite ride.

I would actually be really interested in this as I have a habit of riding the same old routes time and time again. As great as they are would be good to do some new stuff in 2021

When green laning I record routes on a sat nav download to lap top or store on device
The TRF trail riders fellowship stores these on a national forum and a local forum so any members can download routes and ride we put in fuel stops and places to eat or any advice that might help
I am sure this could be done on here if someone wanted to take on the task

Have you got a satnav that will take GPX files? If so I’ll gladly share what I have with you.

Questions for Admin then ... is there a way to do this through the forum? If so does SWB actually want to? Should it/could it be restricted to paying members? Or should we just do it privately ourselves outside the forum between those of us that want to share?

It can be put into the members section.

Personally I don't know how to do the gpx thing, I usually just make the ride up on google maps and remember it.

We've traditionally kept routes (other than friendlies) off of the open side of the forum but they get posted in the members section. There were stories of old bill checking forums for Rideouts and setting up speed traps on the route so it was done to protect those on the ride in case they fractured a speed limit or two.

If someone knows how to do it and wants to start a data base up I can create a section in the members area.

I don’t know about creating a database as such but I see the forum allows us to attach files to a post ... so I guess if we had a section in the members area for routes then we could share them by posting them up there with a brief description and an attached google maps screen shot (or link even) or a GPX file if available. I guess that would work but I’ll try it tomorrow when I have time by attaching a ‘test’ GPX file to a message here in this thread.

All mine are in my tiny little brain.

Several Wales, several Wilts, 6 counties, Stratford-u-A, Malverns, Loomies etc.

I don't have a satnav, google maps, 'phone etc.
Have you noticed that anyone going slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster is a maniac ?
