Police getting it wrong again

Post by Blue »

I left work tonight in my car. (Bike's waiting to go to the tyre centre for a new tyre  ) When I stopped at the light underneath the motorway a 'collision investigation unit' pulls up beside me and shouts accross to my to wind the window down. He then tells me that I need to change my number plates for bs marked ones as mine are illegal and if a traffic unit saw me I would be fined. Mine have a picture of st. George on the end and the message the says "England. Love it or leave it" The font is the right size, rightly spaced and easily readable. OK then I know my plates are not completely legal and I change them when I take the car for an MOT, but it has never triggered an ANPR alert and if I get stopped I will pay the £30 fair and square.

My point is because of what happened next. He then speed of up the road at just over 80mph, Yes I know I should not have broken the speed limit to check :? But hang on, He's just moaned at me cos I am a master criminal as my plates are not right but speeding at over 80 is very safe as demonstrated by the very officer that will investigate any accident that my speed may cause. We are told all the time that speed killls but the cop just set all the wrong example

Coming back from Cornwall yesterday I followed a marked Focus estate all the way from Sourton to J30 along with a 6 series BMW, an Audi, a couple of other cars and a Gixxer. We averaged between 75 and 90 pretty much all the way, and eventually I passed him doing about 80 as we came off the fly-over (we were all bunched up and it was a case of "who go's past first") ...... as I looked across he smiled and wagged a finger at me - they're not all idiots :?

It depends on what the current flavour of the month is and at the moment it seems to be numberplates, i know another couple of people who got a tug in their cars as now they are supposed to show the following

The British Standard also requires that a number plate must be marked with the following information: -

The British Standard Number (currently BS AU 145d)
The name, trade mark, or other means of identification of the manufacturer or component supplier. (The company who actually make the number plates.)
The name and postcode of the supplying outlet. (The 'supplying outlet' is taken to mean a company whose business consists wholly or partly of selling number plates.)
A non-reflective border and the Euro-symbol with the national identification letters are optional additions.
There shall be no other markings or material contained on the number plate.

today i saw a unmarked 5 series estate, wouldnt normally have paid it much attention as it was metallic purple and not the conventional black/dark blues they normally use. lots of marked cars on the a30 this afternoon too

If I see a speeding copper without his lights on, I always sit behind him. Unless it's certain times of the night when they can't have the siren and/or lights on what is their excuse? Also what is to say that I don't have a camera recording their speed?

They tend to end up slowing down :-D

Grr, I nearly pulled a police car over the other day to give him a right talking to. He was sat on the grass verge on the A380 (Exeter bound) just before the Texaco garage - near the speed camera. I was driving in the inside lane, and there were quite a few cars, and there was a car going past me on the outside lane, when the Police car just decided to pull off the grass verge right in front of me! I had no where to go - as there was a car in the outside lane, so I had to slam on the anchors. I was miffed to say the least. Anyhoo, I pulled along side him to see if I could attract his attention and indicate I wanted 'a word', but he was too busy gassing with his mate. Completely oblivious to what he had done. So much for their advance driver training.

Should have taken his reg no. and reported him - they should all sign the cars out at the start if the shift, so they'd have been traceable

80 on your clocks is probably 5mph less in reality...thats only a few mile an hour over the limit.

I do a ton of motorway driving for work and I am sure the police will leave you alone for 80 mph odd on a motorway if you have room for it - they arent that pedantic. I dont see any issue with a police vehicle driving at those speeds.

I can understand why they might get the arse with your plate - it would be easy to construe it as some retarded BNP voter thing - if I was a copper I would fine you for it :)

and whats to say I'm not   He got the arse cos my plate didn't have the bs mark on it. My point was if he can pick me up on a missing mark as my plate font is still ok and then drive off at, by my speedo just over 80 as an accident investigation cop he of all of them should be setting the example they preach about speed and actually on on or just under 70. :?

When i got a tug for 86 on the m5 the copper was very reasonable as i told him i was going to Lincoln and at 70 it seemed to take for ever, he just pointed out that my car (Vauxhall Astra GTE,at the time) would crumple if it hit the central reservation at that speed then told me that some forces will pull you at 85 and some will not, however at 80 you will almost certainly remain tug free as it is reasonably accepted today that 80 is a reasonable motorway cruising speed for a modern car with far better brakes and suspension than when the 70 limit was brought in so i just go with that, i think the only reason that they haven't raised the limit to 80 years ago is because of the various road safety groups who would kick up a lot of fuss and start quoting accident figures so its easier to just let 80 become the norm but retain the law saying 70 to keep the safety knobbers happy

Plus if they did raise the limit to 80, alot of people woould think an acceptable speed would be 90. So easier to keep the limit at 70.
Also these are my views and i dont have any evidence to back any of what i say, up!
