ALL Bikers..aware !!!!
This is a statement my mum rote to the clamping agencies last night about my motorcycle clamp last night.
My 17 year old son rode his motorbike into Exeter last night and parked it outside Central station at approx 9pm. He returned to his bike at 11.20pm to find it had been clamped. He phoned me as he was unsure why this had happened because as far as he was aware you dont need to put a parking ticket on a motorbike for the obvious reasons( i.e ticket blowing away or being stolen) also as it was after 6pm and there where only 2 other cars parked there he assumed it would be fine ,WRONG, He failed to notice the clampers sign behind him in the dark and 8ft high up.He phoned the clampers and pleaded his case obviously to no use as they insisted it was private property and they where within there rights to clamp him, had he parked 20 yards to the right he would have been fine. I had to hand over £100 before they would release the bike. I know theres no point appealing to them i just want other motorists/cyclists to be aware .

There IS EVERY POINT IN APPEALING...
Kick up a stink, Like I did when the same firm gave my lad a ticket on his bike for parking there.
Despite having 2 'Goons' by his side he saw my point of view and was very willing to waive the fine...

Re: ALL Bikers..aware !!!!
I would have been severely tempted to get the bike picked up then find a way to get the clamp off without damaging it, as i understand thats the crucuial part, not damaging the clamp but there is no law against removing the vehicle with the clamp attached from what i have read, i would rather pay for a new wheel, the tyre might have come out reasonably easy once deflated. I have read in the papers of people doing this and getting away with it, one fella stripped down the front suspension on his sons metro to remove a clamp.........
Re: ALL Bikers..aware !!!!
Just wondering, how do they clamp a bike without something getting damaged/scratched???
ie; forks, mudguard, swingarm, exhaust can, fairing.

I'm pondering a similar thought as I've never seen a bike "clamped"...
Which wheel... and what do they use,
any photo's anyone

Probably the same way people chain their bikes up at night, through the swinging arm and back wheel, mine hasn't been scratched doing it that way.VTR wrote:Just wondering, how do they clamp a bike without something getting damaged/scratched???

Re: ALL Bikers..aware !!!!
Shame you didn't know anyone local with cutting equipment and able to pick the bike up, clampers are like traffic wardens and piggs with speed cameras a fecking waste of time..........

A few years ago now , i had finished work and my dad was waiting for like 2 minutes to collect me , he got out of the car just to wave so i knew were he was and within that very short period of time no more than 30 secs i reckon,no lie the clamp was being put on , what load of thieving b'stards. Never park or wait at the Central station car park.

Re: ALL Bikers..aware !!!!
My son and his friend were clamped in Exeter, £100 each to be released. From what I have found out since, I would just cut the thing off and let them come chasing me. Many of these companies close down and re-open under a new name to avoid paying court fines and CCJ's imposed after being found guilty of abuses. They are operated by no more than legalised thugs, who at the end of this year will be subject to much tighter controls.

Re: ALL Bikers..aware !!!!
just a little info ive been clamped also and i will let you into a little get out for free,
when i was clamped in my car i got a mate to go and get a trolly jack, and jacked the front up and we pushed it out of the clamping zone it took a while, a bike would be easy to move because by law if you move it onto the main road for example the clamping company have to remove the clamp with no charge. lol if you need any more help contact me
