Re: Ride to Jennycliff Cafe part 2, July 20th

I'm game, but I need to either book the day off, let them know i'll be in later than usual, or ride back early. I'm far from a fast rider though, lol.

Re: Gixxer 1100 slingshot front brake help

Both front forks are currently in CMS Exeter, one is having the stanchion replaced, and both are having new seals and oil. They're going to look at the bushes too, and if they need doing, then so be it.

Cheers for the info folks :)

Re: Gixxer 1100 slingshot front brake help

It's for one stanchion, seals and oil fitted, and the other fork just gets new oil. I doesn't seem a bad price to be honest, I just need to get over to Barnstaple and pull his bike apart, lol.

Re: Gixxer 1100 slingshot front brake help

We've been looking on ebay funny enough, not many come up. I spoke to CMS Exeter today though, and they've quoted £180 for the one stanchion fitted, including new oil and seals, and new oil in the other fork. Here's a couple of pics to give you an idea of how bad it is.. http://i7.photobucket.com/al...

Re: Gixxer 1100 slingshot front brake help

It's the stanchions that are knackered, if they're fairly simple things to deal with, I'd do it for him. I'm pretty mechanically minded, I've been fixing my own cars for as long as I can remember. Bikes I'm not so sure about, but I figure it out as I go. It's just a case of getting the replacement s...

Re: Gixxer 1100 slingshot front brake help

I'll give CMS a shout tomorrow. When you say returning, do you mean buy a set from them and send his back on an exchange kind of basis? CMS in Plymouth have told him that 'nobody repairs them anymore' ?

Re: Gixxer 1100 slingshot front brake help

I knew this'd be a good place to ask :P His is the 1100M, he's also had it suggested to him that some of the later GSXR forks might fit? Is the 1100L a newer model? The reason for all this messing about is that one of his stanchions (think that's spelled right :P) is knackered, so it either needs re...

Gixxer 1100 slingshot front brake help

Basically, my best mate has got a 91 slingshot, and the front forks have had it. He's been trying to get the bike back on the road for the last 5 years, but he's not very mechanical minded. With a bit of encouragement though, he's sourced a set of slabside front forks and wheel, but he doesn't know ...

I might be up for this too, if we can get his bike fixed, my mate might come too, he only lives in Barnstaple :)

Re: To nodd or not to nodd?

As I've only had my bike license since October, and a bike for the last 2 weeks, I'd never really experienced the 'nod' tradition until today. I don't really pass many bikes on my way too work, and even less on the way home at 10pm, but when I have, I've looked for a nod and not seen one. Today thou...

Re: Front brake rebuild and rebleed help on RF600R

I picked the worst day for it, but they're done. The left hand calliper had one piston seized in it, and that same piston had only one seal rather than two. The right hand piston was worse, both pistons seemed to be seized, and they both only had one seal in them rather than two. I stripped both cal...

Re: Front brake rebuild and rebleed help on RF600R

When you say grease the piston, is there a specific grease to use? Or will just a bit of new fluid do?

Front brake rebuild and rebleed help on RF600R

This will be my first attempt at anything mechanical on the bike. I've done plenty of stuff on my cars, from changing wheels, all the way to engine swaps, suspension rebuilds and brake rebuilds, but I'm a bit unsure with the bike. Is there much difference? am I likely to run into issues bleeding the...

Re: 93 Suzuki rf600r top box and mounting bracket?

I've been down to exeter, spoken to bridge, and they were useless. They didn't even look to see if a top box is available. About 250 yards up the road, there's another bike shop called SP motorcycles. The guy in their parts dept was much more helpfull, he found a luggage bracket for things like suit...
