ock wrote:sorry dude but I would have to agree with Jam, I`m a panelbeater so I do it for a living, what you do with cracks is weld them up with a soldering iron then a small amount of filler just to make where you welded flat, you don`t need loads of fibre glass or filler as plastic doesn`t really dent, and if it has you use a hot air gun to push it back out, next you need a plastic primer and then I would use a 2k primer to stop it all moving underneath, might be easyer if you got a good second hand one of fleabay and let the painters prep and paint it, at least if it looks sh*te its up to them to put right
yeh i no its a gash job but im not too bothered.. as i said this was my first attempt and first encounter with fibre glassing and body filling etc.. and also.. i've changed my mind again.. i might give it a go myself with some cans mixed from halfrauds or somewhere.. i only got the bike for £800 so spenin like £400 on some new plastics or hundreds in a paint shop.. i mean.. i know my original post was asking all about how to go about takin it to a shop but i'd rather spend £30 on some paint and give it a shot myself first.. never know it might turn out ok.. :| ..

As long as your patient enough you can get a decentish finish, obviously you will never get it as good as the original paint but it can be acceptable.
I sprayed a spare set of panels I had with rattle cans and they turned out ok, not brilliant. Note the wonky decals and on the seat unit where I got bored of sanding

Oh and wipe any petrol off instantly or it will melt your paint off.

If you are getting paint mixed and put in spray cans, you need to be aware that there are 3 different shades of Kawasaki green in use, dpending on the age of your bike, Halfrauds have only one on their database, look in MCN services section there's a company in there that will mix and aerosol paint for you and will have all 3 shades to choose from, look at the paint codes on your bike and use them.

There's usually a sticker somewhere with the paintcodes on, possibly under one of the seats, I don't know if it will be in the manual or not, failing that speak to a Kawasaki dealership and they should be able to tell you from the model and age of the bike. I've a feeling that the ZXR400L will be the mid shade green rather than the earlier ELR green or the newest ZX10R/ZX6R shade.

I'm paying a freind from college who is awsome at body repairs 20 quid to neaten it all up good an proper, body fill it some more and primer the whole lot ready to be sprayd by a paint shop at the end of the month.

this will leave me for a couple of days without a headlight and the bike lookin pretty silly. Is it illegal to ride without a headlight during the daytime. obviously not at night. (the indicators will still be on the bike aswell.
